    Hi There,

I’m looking for some advice on WPML + GD v2.

Do I need an additional plugin to make multilingual possible? Docs imply this, but no GD Multilingual plugin available in downloads.

I have places with multiple custom fields stored. All of the custom fields are numbers, which means I don’t want to translate Places, or store the information twice. However I would like a language switcher to be visible on the CPT to switch UI strings (translated in PO/MO), but show the same information.

    Hope this makes sense,

    Emlyn

Then you will not want to translate listings or GD Categories, but, then WPML will need to default back to your main language for all pages.
You can get the addon here: https://wpgeodirectory.com/downloads/wpml-multilingual/

    Hi Alex,

Sorry, can I press you for an answer to the question:

Do I need an additional plugin to make multilingual possible?

As to your suggestions re: WPML, I don’t think that is feasible. The language switcher needs to be visible at all times. If a user is on a listing, and hits the language switcher, then it should direct the user to the same page in a different language. The header and footer and all other strings will translate, but display the same content (i.e. not a translation – we do not want any duplicate data stored).

A similar request can be seen here:

    Thanks,

    Emlyn

OK, then you will need to translate the listings, too.
From your topic it sounded like you will be using WPML.
To do that you will also need our WPML integration plugin, which is here: https://wpgeodirectory.com/downloads/wpml-multilingual/

Those are the additional plugins you will need for multilingual listings.

    Hi Alex,

    I quote my original post:

I’d appreciate if you could take the time to flesh out your answers a bit more.

Are you saying that for what I need, it is *essential* to make the listings translatable?

Is there *any* way to not have the data stored twice, and to have the language switcher display on the pages?

Here’s another example of what I am looking for:

We do not offer custom code for WPML to show a language switcher for WPML if the page content has not been translated.

We do offer a widget that comes with the WPML Multilingual addon to help with translating pages from the frontend.
