    Hi guys,

How do your plugins work along side Yoast SEO and W3 Total Cache? As I prepare to release my new site by the end of the year I will be using these 2 very popular plugins to help with site speed and SEO.

Are there any known problems or thing I should be aware of?

    Thanks a mil,

    Adrian

This is a bit of a pity, since page speed greatly effects SEO (as well as user experience of course)… and in turn caching greatly improves page speed. Are there any particular parts of the plugins that are more affected by caching than others?

What I mean is… if it’s only the MAP that is affected by caching then perhaps I could exclude that from caching and cache the rest?

    Thanks guys,

    Adrian

Have a look at this post too, a caching plugin really does little for GD:

Searching for cache in the forum will give you more results if you want to find out more.

For what I’ve seens since I started using it in 2010, w3tc will slow down 90% of the website it is used on because the plugin is more resource hungry that most website it is used for.

PHP caching isn’t really that effective, it will end up slowing down everything if the server isn’t powerful enough to handle it.

Tested on GeoTheme.com we stopped using it and never try again.

On our dedicated server with nginx and fastcgi installed, webiste was loading over 1 second faster without w3tc installed.

    My 2 cents,

    Thx

Pretty interesting Paolo, thanks for the insight….. I have enabled compression (GZIP) on my control panel on the server… seems to certainly help things… without caching… just hope it doesn’t break anything!

Is there a verdict on whether GZIP will help page load speed without breaking anything?

It works perfectly from what I can see anyway

Yes, in most servers GZIP will definitely help with page loading speed.

However in some server with very low resources, it will take more time to compress it, that the time saved because of smaller files download.

My answer is, 99% of the time yes, but with low end server it could even slow it down.

    thx

Cool, The GZIP decreased page size by 1/3 and improved load speed. Might be a good idea to recommend to everyone who does not use a low end server.

Looking at a couple more options to improve load speed.

    1. Can image optimization programs help & work well with wp-gd? (like the ones found here: http://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/10-best-image-optimization-plugins-to-speed-up-your-wordpress-site/ )

    2. Can i benefit from using a Content Delivery Network like amazon cloud front? (http://aws.amazon.com/cloudfront/ )

    1. no because they all work for the regular wordpress media uploader (backend), which is not used in the add listing form.

    2. Absoutely yes, but it’s not going to be cheap at all.

    Thx

    1. I think some of the image optimizer’s will allow to optimize all the files in wp gallery. If they are loaded in the gallery I can run the optimizer every week or so for any new images that were uploaded. Does not need to be optimized when the user uploads. Sound like that would be ok? Worth a try?

    2. The amazon cdn costs .12$ per gigabit they transfer. For site’s with a lot of transferring going on can add up quickly, but might be worth it to some people. At first glance seemed a little complicated to set up. Will let you know how it goes if I use it in the future.
