OK – I have got it working (hooray!)

    Some things to note though:

    1. I went back to step 5.1 as you suggested, and noticed that when generating (and then copying) the client ID and Secret (using the official ‘copy’ buttons), extra spaces were being generated/copied – a leading and trailing space for the ID and a trailing space for the secret! The spaces can be seen when you paste the ID, but not the secret (it’s just a line of dots) – so I had to paste via a text window to delete the space, then into the GD box. No idea if it was a problem, or if I had just not created the ID/Secret using the correct URLs before.

    2. When I tried viewing analytics for a listing it came up with an error message, suggesting that I enable analytics by visiting https://console.developers.google.com/apis/api/analytics/overview?xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I did this and hey-presto, working. This suggests that a final step might be added to your tutorial?

    Anyway, thanks Gust!

It’s a Jetpack upgrade overnight – in case anyone else affected:

    Thanks Guust,

I think my confusion arose from the Geodirectory Google Analytics tutorial, step 6:

Click Create and you should then be able to copy and paste the Client ID to your settings page, for example:
    12345654321-12343x2x34x5xx4x32xx12x3.apps.googleusercontent.com

This might be altered to avoid confusion for others?

I will try it when I have resolved my current white screen issue (unresponsive/dead website – raised on another ticket!)

    Hi Paolo,

I have an unresponsive website (empty white screen) this morning, and think it might be related to this update (I can’t even get the backend login screen).

While working last night on my site I noticed that I needed 12 updates – so I did them in one batch. I carried on working on the site fine for a while, then logged out. This morning I went to my site and got the white screen.

So I am wondering if the problem is something to do with having done the upgrades in one batch. Previously I have only been able to update Core plugin first, because the addons aren’t visible as upgrades until core is updated. Only now, coming to the GD forum, do I see that core might have been included in the batch of updates, with the warning to do Core first!

Could all upgrades being done in one batch be the cause of the white screen?

I will investigate other avenues in the meantime, including reinstalling a backup, but wondered if this was related to updates and if so what a fix might be.

    Thanks,

    Thanks Guust,

I deleted the end (.apps.googleusercontent.com) at the end and re-pasted it.

Pressing authorize now opens up the window as shown in the tutorial, but when I press the Allow button I get a message: Something went wrong – #2

I turned off Wordfence in case this was having an effect and re-tried – same message (so Wordfence back on).

Have you come across this before?

    – I am off to bed now, will check in in the morning …

Ah, that would cost me $69 to use! And then would not be consistent with social share for listings.

It’s a shame that we have a good social share function that is on all listings, but that we can’t use for the directory itself, which is what we as GD users want to promote! – would it be a lot of work to have this coded as a widget?

    Thanks

    HI Stiofan,

I’d wondered about the effect of having it set to publish straight away – I’ll amend my other notification text so as not to have the ‘published successfully’ notification expected.

Thanks for feed back about adding a listing – I had though I had done enough having the link on the homepage and instructions through main menu on other pages – obviously not! – I’ll have a look.

    Thanks,
    Adrian
