Hi Simone,
that didn’t work. So I changed the appropriate .mo file to en_GB suffix as well and moved that into the same folder in case that worked (buddypress and askimet have both .po and .mo files en_GB in the same folder) – that didn’t work either.
To recap, geodir_payments-en_GB.po and geodir_payments-en_GB.mo are both in: public_html/MYDOMAIN/wp-content/languages/plugins/
(there are also some .po and .mo files at the next directory level up – I tried moving the 2 files here and retested – but still not working – so I moved them back down)
The folder that I moved the original .po and .mo files from still contains a file index.php:
public_html/MYDOMAIN/wp-content/plugins/geodir_payment_manager/geodir-payment-languages/index.php
Could that be having an influence? Or any other ideas?
Thanks,
AdrianOK,
it’s not working, so here is what I have done:
I opened the file geodir_payments-en_US.po in a file editor – edited the string (replaced the word) – and also corrected a couple of typos in other strings!.
Now, my directory path is a little different from that set out by your guidance:
I have moved the geodir_payments.po to: public_html/MYDOMAIN/wp-content/languages/geodir_payments/geodir_payments-en_US.po
(NB: my host directories are structured so that each domain/website has it’s own directory with wp-content etc. -as well as having wp-content at the top level under public_html for the original domain that my host package (TSO Host) was set up for).
That didnt work (tested by adding a place – old text still presented on screen).
Now, under /languages (for my website/domain) there are already 2 directories – one for /themes one for /plugins (with askimet and buddypress .po and .mo files). So I moved the .po file to the /plugins directory and tested again – it still doesn’t work.
So I am wondering:
– do I have to move the .mo and index.php files as well as the .po file?
– or does the .po have to be ‘translated’ as well as edited?
– does the fact that the .po file is -en_US.po conflict with the fact that my site language is set to English (UK)?Any ideas?
– or should I just move the .po back and forget about it?! Living with ‘property’ instead of ‘listing’ and hoping that when you release the next update to the plugin you will change the wording in recognition that ‘listing’ is much more generic and useful to all users, many of whom are not setting up directories of property?!
Adrian
Ok, thanks Simone.
I’ll have a look at this.
Adrian
Hi Simone,
I am not looking at any kind of translation – I want to keep it in English! – and it’s only one word I want to change – not a sentence.
Do I really have to find out about .po files or is there a simpler way of changing that one word?
Thanks,
AdrianHi, I have a similar issue:
in the message I just want to change the text: “To publish the property please transfer …” replacing ‘property’ with ‘listing’.
Do I really have to start editing .po files and moving them to other directories? All other messages/notifications seem to be easily edited through the front end in Prices & Payments or Notifications (Geodirectory settings). Not being an expert, I don’t want to mess up while digging around in files!
Given that ‘listing’ – as a generic term – would be applicable to most if not all users (unlike ‘property’),could this default message be changed in a future release?
Thanks.That’s great – thanks Guust.
Does that mean that GDF Modern won’t be upgraded – or that if it is I won’t lose the custom CSS I have coded?
I was about to do this (using one-click child theme plugin), but apparently wordpress does not support ‘grandchild’ themes – I understand GDF modern is a child of GDF?
Thanks Guust,
It didn’t enlarge all of the elements but I’m having a play around with this now (I appreciate the fishing rod to accompany the fish!)
This is a good learning exercise for me, but tell me: is the CSS file unaffected by theme upgrades? I don’t want to lose these changes at some point unexpectedly.
Cheers,
AdrianHi Simone,
That has worked – thank you!
Adrian
This didn’t work form me – I pasted it at the bottom of my functions.php file – does it have to go anywhere specific?
Also, won’t my functions.php be updated when the theme I am using (GDF modern) is next updated?
Thanks,
AdrianThanks for the support guys,
I will have a look later and see what works (my second post must have crossed with Simone’s post, as I couldn’t seeit when I posted the update)
ok, so thinking that the 2 previously created forums might have had permalinks/paths that were incompatible with the ‘forums-2’ slug of the forums page, I deleted them and created one anew to test this – still getting the error message …

– here is the address of the page I was taken to, while signed in: http://docs.wpgeodirectory.com/installing-addons/
Thanks,
AdrianI’ve finally found this after a frustrating time searching this site and the web!
If the Share Location addon is obsolete and unsupported, then WHY enable me to download and install it before having to delete it and wonder if in deleting it I might have deleted files that were shared with Advanced Search that now apparently has this functionality?!!
OK – it’s a rhetorical question born of exasperation – please take the addon off of the download list for logged in members.
Thanks
