Hi Danielle,
The customization example is a place for developers to start with a new customization. This isn’t an easy customization to make because there are many factors involved in search.
A better bet is to place a GD Popular Post View widget restricted to featured listings inside the GD Search Page widget area.
However, we do know some members will want to make changes themselves, so we have provided an example of where to start with the customization. If you need more help tailoring it to fit your site you can contact a GD expert here:
Instructions for that are here: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/common-styling-examples/#legend

Hello,
WP can be a bit tempermental about systematic changes to permalinks. For this reason, whn you have found the settings you like, but are having issues like 404 pages, we recommend that you resave the following settings in the following order. If it doesn’t work, we can take another look:
1. Multilocations Settings at – GeoDirectory – Multilocations
2. GD Permalinks at – GeoDirectory – Permalinks
3. WP Permalinks at – WordPress – Settings – PermalinksLet us know how it goes
I do see what you mean, with all listings within the limit of squared distance showing up regardless of the Near Me distance.
However, the Near Me slider value will allow a search area larger than the limit of the squared distance. These are both by design as far as I understand it.
The idea is that the site admin can set a limit to the squared distance so that most searches are not so big (to lighten the load on the DB), so that setting is recommended to be at 40, but can be set to whatever you like, including 120, if resources arent an issue. This is a square distance, though, so, think width and height, and the hypotenuse will be longer, and some listings will be out to the distance of the hypotenuse if they are in the ‘corner’ of the bounding box as calculated by the square. That accounts for some being at 150 when the square is 120.
The Near Me slider does not limit or reduce the listings, though, since, as they are ordered by distance from the user, the user can just stop paging when they have had their fill of results.
I hope that helps with understanding what is happening there.

Ah, now I am understanding what you meant above
it seems that if i add multiple GD Popular Post Widgets in the GD Listing zone then all of them are display.
Yes, that is correct. Each of the widgets will display by default.
If you want only the one that shows Featured Bars to display only on the Bars category page you will need Widget Logic or a similar plugin to display only on the specific page URL.
You can find a link to the plugin here, with some examples to get you started. https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/useful-plugins/#logic
There are several topics in the forum where members have worked on this setup: https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/topic/popular-post-view-widget-logic/#post-419972
We don’t provide support for 3rd party plugins here in the forum, but if you need hands on help to get it set up Guust and several other GD Experts have experience with that plugin. http://geodirectoryexperts.com
Advanced display options similar to widget logic have been included in the core plugin for V2. https://wpgeodirectory.com/geodirectory-v2-release-candidate/
Hello again,
The approach you are taking is not recommended because at the very least it will create undesirable slugs with ‘-1’ in them. We would rather help you accomplish your goal by using the plugin as intended.
Can you say more about why the grouping by state(region) on location pages isn’t serving your needs? Are cities too small and states too big? Something else? Are you not using the location pages at all, then?
Adding the category selector was one step towards what I’m looking to do though, thank you. Is there any way to auto populate that with the category that’s being viewed though? Not when the category has been selected and searched, but just when you’re viewing the category page. We have it set up so on the home page it shows all the top level categories.
For setting the search bar category selector on category listing pages, to match the listing page category, I will flag that for the developers who will let us know if there is an easy way to do that.
Also, is there any way I can add a custom field to the main search bar like I can with the categories option? It would be nice to have our only filter on the main bar instead of under the gear option.
Yes, but only select fields can be added to the search bar itself.
For the Near Me results, the box Must be checked, then the slider comes into effect. Otherwise it is not doing a Near Me search, it is doing a Near TO search with a google lookup for Memphis. If you had autocomplete turned on it would allow users to select Memphis (City) and search results IN Memphis.
July 9, 2018 at 6:57 pm in reply to: Installed add-on, registered yelp app, how can I add listings from yelp?? #437620OK, looks like you hadn’t yet set the default location. Once set the add listing page works and the Yelp importer, too.
Visit the settings at
GeoDirectory – Default location
and update that to the city where your directory will be located.
If you need to add locations in more than one city you will need the Location Manager addon:
Try adjust the setting at GeoDirectory – General – Search – Limit squared distance area to X miles (helps improve search speed). This is the control for how far from “Memphis” if Memphis is in the Near box.
That is different than the Near Me distance, which is only for results based on the user’s actual location.
I will flag your find about the iOS apostrophe, I hadn’t heard of that before but the developers should know if that is a new issue.
Hello,
It sounds like you are using countries as categories?
The category selector should refine search with the category:
https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/gd-search/#cat
If you are trying to search within a Location, then the Near field is what you are after.
If that doesn’t help, please reply with a URL and WP Admin so we can take a look at your site. You can use a private reply so only our team can view the info.
Please include your WP Login URL and WP Admin credentials in a private reply and we will take a look at your widget settings.
July 9, 2018 at 6:20 pm in reply to: User Activation Key; Multi-Select Error, Translation Error #437613Hello,
1. I cannot see the cat selector. WHere is it showing up?
I think you must mean the CPT selector, for places or services? If you are only using services, delete all the place listings and then the selector will go away. Make sure to remove place from the trash, too.2. I have flagged this for the accounting folks to let you know if the previous invoices can be re-addressed. Did you already update your address in your account?
