There were tab characters trailing after some of the titles in the site.
Once removed the map now loads.

No, GD Search is only for GD listings
Technically the categories are called based on the ID of the category, lowest first, but once they have been created there is no setting to re-order them. They would need to be removed, and re-created.
Another idea would be to use a very different type of icon for restaurants.

I know you have mentioned this in the past, but so far I have never seen this and we cannot fix something we cannot see.
Let us know if you find a way to recreate it.
