Make sure you are using an directory type map on the location page, instead of auto, archive, or post.
You can use the Title settings:

Other than that you can use the category description widget, but as you say you will need to fill the Category Top Description to use that.
Try removing that code, which I think id for V1 only.
With Custom Post Types addon you can add a new post type with the properties you want.
If we need to check the settings please share WP Admin credentials.

You have used GD Listings on the archive template.
Use GD Loop instead.
Try that and let us know.
GD Listings is only used on the location page template.
All the archives should use GD Loop.

the details page will not behave as expected if you use the ELementor page editor on it.
Save the template you have used and apply it to a Themer layout for the places single first. If the issue persist after doing that, write back and we can take another look.
