If you do not want to hide the country select field in the Add Listing from, delete the CSS that hides the field for the moment.

Strange, cannot find what is coloring the text white.
But if you add this to your CSS, you should see the text:

.login_form_l .form_row .textfield, .registration_form_box .form_row .textfield {
    background-color: red;
}

I’ll get the others to have a look too.

No need to edit any files.
Go to appearance > menu and add the buddypress links.

That seems wrong, normally past events do not show in the events tab of a place, if you set “Display events filter:” to upcoming.
