there must be something else with that slug in your database.

For example: yoursite.com/places/tags/fenway-park/

Change that tag slug to fenway-park-1 and you’ll be able to change the slug ofthe post to :

yoursite.com/places/united-states/massachusetts/boston/attractions/fenway-park/

That is how WordPress works, you can’t have 32 elements with the same slug in the db.
