No worries. I have cancelled my subscriptions and moving forward with another solution provider that doesn’t mind “my attitude”. If you’d simply answered the question with

“In your theme functions.php you can add this:” From the very begining, we would have never needed to have this exchange.

YOUR attitude has been duly noted. Thank you for your efforts.

Paolo — Well thank you for sharing EXACTLY what the scope of this forum IS NOT! Therefore, I am more certain today than at any other point in my entire experience with this plugin and its addons that a pre-paid annual membership of $150 was a total waste of my time and money. I’ll be cancelling my subscription TODAY!!!! Thank you for helping me see things so very clearly!!!!

    Hello Paolo,

I tried to follow the threads for removing the sharethis plugin. However I got lost. You link to this thread “https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/topic/sharethis-plugin/#post-7306” refers to this thread “https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/topic/removing-the-share-buttons-from-listing-sidebar/” which then takes me to this thread “https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/topic/disable-select-map-view/”.

None of them explain in clear language which file to edit and what exactly to remove in order to completely remove the social share buttons and sharethis from the sidebar. Please advise.

    Hello Again!

Ok .. I read the language translation instructions however think you misunderstood me. I do not want to TRANSLATE the English language files. I want to CHANGE the wording completely — in English.

    Hello Again,

Thanks for the quick response. However, what if I want to remvove the sharethis code from the theme completely and replace it with another plugin. What file do I need to edit?

Yes, and it works. Here’s how. GD requires that the categories already exist in WP. The importer supports mapping directly to custom post type and other taxonomies. Once the categories are in place, it is a simple matter of using the GD importer for the Business listings.

One more thing, I had to use the batch geocoding tool found here http://www.findlatitudeandlongitude.com to secure the latitude/longitude coordinates.

A little cut/past and a few mouse clicks and all problems are resolved.

    Guust,

You have answered everything except the main issue — the categories. NO ONE in their right mind is going to manually input thousands of line items. Not in today’s day and age. If there is not a way to upload the list via some automated process then please just kindly tell me that so that I may find a more robust solution. It been almost a month since we’ve been trying to get this thing up and running. I personally am beyond frustrated with the entire process. The GEO Directory method of getting information into the database needs to be addressed — it is weak! I chose this product because it appeared to be well documented, actively supported and aesthetically functional. However, after looking under the hood, I’m started to get buyer’s remorse. If we don’t have a solution today — like right now — I’m moving on.

I think the solution at http://www.findlatitudeandlongitude.com will make the process somewhat less painful as far as the google maps aspect of the problem is concerned. However, there are over 1500 primary categories in the SIC database. Ideally, we’d love to have the 2 to 4 digit SIC codes and their descriptions (primary and secondary categories). If you like I can send you the CSV file for just the SIC codes.

I am not sure that I understand the multilocations documentation. What setting should I change to allow users to submit listings from any location? How do I allow users to change their location?

    Hello,

This is our issue exactly. We purchased a database with over 75,000 business listings. We cannot upload it because the categories have to be created first. We cannot upload it because the addresses have to have latitude & longitude co-ordinates. Users cannot submit listings because currently the site is “locked” to one location. We cannot add all locations because we don’t know how to upload them. Please advise. Should we be looking at another solution?

    Hello,
Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes given to business types/categories in the US. We want to classify business listings according to that standard. However, the list is quite long. The issue that I am an running into with GEO Directory and its plugins has to do with “seeding” our database. You guys certainly do not intend for us to manually input thousands of records — categories, latitudes, longitudes, listings, etc. Should we be looking for another solution?

    Getting really frustrated …

I may have missed something here. But I don’t see a download link for the header.php file. Please explain the steps required to retrieve it.

Guust, this does not resolve the problem. It only creates new ones. Since the update, my map header has stopped working and I am noticing several other “bugs”. How can you guys unleash this kind of havoc on production sites. I am not paying $150/yr to be a beta tester! WTF
