Hi Guust,
I think that is the beauty of the “Search Near” functionality. If I want a hotel in FNQ I can type in “search near” “Port Douglas” and it will list all the hotels in and around Port Douglas, not just Port Douglas. So if I have 1 hotel in my directory for Port Douglas, 2 in Mossman, 3 in Palm Cove and 10 for Cairns I see 16 options, not just the one I would see if I chose Port Douglas in the location filter.
I would much prefer that as a user, and as a directory owner.
Stiofan, a simple solution, suggested about 6 weeks ago – if a site is restricted to one country (+ one region ) can’t the “search near” automatically append the Country ( and region) to the “search near” parameter.
I am in the same boat, if someone is searching for “Newport” on my site they are searching for Newport up the road, not in America.
( I thought you had actually implemented this because my site behaves pretty well with the search near now?)
August 12, 2014 at 1:01 pm in reply to: How do I skip "Popular Places" / "View All" on the Listing pages? #11756I believe the logic applied here is that the home page is meant to be a summary of all the custom post types for a location, or everywhere. From here you go to a specific custom post type e.g. places. This logic doesn’t allow for selecting a location and custom post type in one step. So you are stuck with two steps even if your site only has one custom post type.
There might be ways around it?
Hi Guust,
1. I go to the demo, get “Your location could not be determined” – I have share location disabled.
2. I zoom on the map until the “5” can be seen on Chicago
3. I click on the five
4. I switch the search to Hotels and type Chicago in the near field
5. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
6. I seem to be in the Everywhere location.
7. The test site seems slow today, maybe it is just timing out?
If you pass me FTP i will resolve it for you or if you are capable i can pass the code changes to be made. The fix will be in the next version of core!
Another one Stiofan? Come on, please release an update, you must have 30+ of these little fixes now?
I can wait for the big fixes, it’s all these little fixes that jeopardize our ongoing use of GD. Your next release is not going to be perfect, nobody expects that.
You’re gonna love this! 🙂
I have a problem entering the “location” Oxford Falls, NSW, Australia here on my system. I have entered all locations and only want users to be able to select from the entered location, there should be no dynamic adding of cities.
So I enter “Oxford Falls”, NSW and when I press the Set Address on Map, your validation changes it to “North Narrabeen”
See Set_Address_Before and After.
So, I tried it on your test system by adding an address…
1 Dreadnaught Road, Oxford Falls, NSW, Australia, pressed Set Address on Map, and it found it!!! Showed it on the map in the correct place. (Don’t know what value it saved in your location data file??)
BUT, when I go back into edit my listing, I find my location has been transferred to SCOTLAND! (Who are you – the new Dr Who??) 🙂
See third image.
(Please use Google to find the lat and lon, but please disable the address validation after entry – it is NOT needed once you have the lat and lon)
Once you’ve got the lat and lon for a location a lot of possibilities open up, the search near and sort by distance functionality uses lat and lon, not city and region.
Filtering by country, region and city is likely to be much more efficient, because the data is in the database already, but if a directory is prepared to sacrifice performance for functionality then creating functions based on lat and lon at some time in the future should be possible.
This would eliminate the, somewhat illogical, need for a second listing just so a business shows up in a city search?
Hi Vikas,
Just a suggestion to make the form clearer, and would simplify the coding too, move the first droplist after the duration field, so it says …
“Renew subscription every [90] [days, weeks, months, years] for [x] times.
You wouldn’t need the js to update the “days, months, years” label.
See image.
Add this to you child style folder styles.css
#geodir_post_tags_row.geodir_form_row.clearfix {
display: none;
}Thanks Vikas, I would never have guessed that.
See attached images.
Prices_1 form results in Prices_2 summary.
Would be good if the summary showed the correct actual/intended duration of the package, and that it was a recurring package.

Thanks Vikas,
Might help if the prompt was “Link Event to a Place” and only visible for an “gd_event” price, or even in the section labeled “Event Features Only”
See image
Is there any restriction on which “gd_place” a gd_event can be linked to? i.e. Does the business owner of the gd_place have any say in which gd_events get linked to that place?
1. Your layout problems sound like css and/or theme related issues and the guys on the support forum have gone way beyond their support obligations to help newbies with css and design issues.
2. Your custom code requirements go beyond those normally found in a “directory” product and there are plenty of wordpress developers who could assist you; they don’t need to have GD experience. If I was you I would try to find someone local that you can talk face to face with.
3. I agree with your sentiments however that GD is an evolving product and this creates problems for those of us that want to do serious work with it when we have to wait 3 weeks+ between bug fixes.
Just wondering if the mobile app will make use of XML-RPC ?
Haven’t tried it on a mobile?
I only show cities in my location switcher so it’s easier for me, but this example potentially replaces three controls for country, region and city, with one? -
