Re No. 2 – I was actually referring to the order of the categories as they appear in the Drop Down menu, not the popular categories widget. It displays alphabetically, and I was checking to see if I can change the order that that list appears in.

I have considered the Franchise Manager yes – I imagine I would have do the following to make it work however:
1. change my custom post type structure so that I had just one custom post type that covered both Meals & Places (i presume you can’t have a franchise model which works with two different CPTs?)
2. translation of the word Franchise to Meal
(both of which I am open to)

I suppose there are 2 down sides to this option:

A. I was hoping to use the Franchise manager to allow people to add multiple locations for one business (i.e. the traditional usage for the franchise manager) – if I used the Franchise manager for adding meals to a place, I would no longer have the option of adding multiple locations via the franchise model.

(I suppose the ideal would be to be able to add two different types of Franchise – a meal franchise, which added meal franchises under a Meals tab and Places Franchise which lists all the Franchise locations – perhaps something for the development request list?)

B. there doesn’t seem to be an option for searching for existent posts and adding them to a place – so if there were some “stray” meals that were added independent of the franchise, it would have to be deleted and a new listing created in order to lodge it under the correct meal – am I correct?

That said I’m still open to it, but interested to hear your thoughts on my problems above.

1. Worked perfectly!

Number 2. I am in the fortunate position to only have “dummy” content on my page at the moment while I build it, so I can without major disruption delete all my categories and re-import them in the correct order, in terms of category ID.

My aim is to push the “title-only” categories to the end of the list, i.e. the highest number, so that I can upload a blank icon, and therefore make it effectively disappear from the list.

To avoid any display problems in future when I go to add extra categories, I am considering adding 100 “extra” categories into my importing spreadsheet so that I can use one of them if I need to add a new category in the future, without it messing up how my categories display visually (i.e. keeping the blank icons to the end of the list) – my plan is to add 100 extra , and then disable them using the Prices & Payments plugin, until I need to free one up for a new category.

Is this a crazy idea/ do you foresee any issues that I am not seeing with this plan?

Number 3. I feel like I’m missing something really obvious, stupid question, but where/ how do I select the default category?

I’m a keen learner and can play about with CSS a little but haven’t quite got my head around the codex side of things.

Might someone be able to give me a few clues about how I could use a similar code snippet to the link you provided that would create a class which presumably I would then use in CSS to style (i.e. hide the author)?

Also – regarding version2 – will it be easy for people to change their website from Geodirectory 1 to 2, or will that be difficult?
