If I was looking to add a theme (supreme) do I need to have this setup as its own wordpress install? We have a blog and are trying to create a directory as part of that. I’m keen to use the Supreme theme but it seems that this gets added the same place as the existing wordpress blog theme, so do I need to do an entire other wordpress install in a directory to sort this or am I just getting really confused?

    Thanks

    Tom

    Hi Tom,

Thanks for your post. First of all, you need to understand how theme installation works https://codex.wordpress.org/Themes . Once you’ve gone through that, download the “Directory Starter” theme and install it first. That will be your parent theme and next, install the child theme “Supreme Directory” and follow the instructions here to install our GD plugin. https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/category/getting-started/

Geodirectory will ‘work’ with any theme.

Why not just keep your current theme, and then setup Geodirectory to run at mysite.com/directory

To do that, change the name and slug of the “GD Home” page to ‘directory’

Thanks for coming back to me. I really like the styling of the Supreme theme so am keen to use that for the directory, but i’ll need to keep our existing theme for the main part of our blog. Is therefore the solution to create another WP install at say /directory so I can utilise the Directory starter parent theme?

    Hi Ralph,

Yes. that’s correct. You cannot use the “Supreme Theme” on another theme besides “Directory Starter”

    Thanks!
