Hello:
Some time ago I deleted the Author ‘page’ and now need it back. (Yes, I know it’s not a page, but it used to be in ‘Pages’ in the WP Administrative back end, just like ‘Add Listing’.) Anyway, I found a reference in this support page and wondered if there is someplace where I could download the specific file I need – in this case geodir-author.php. I could then ftp it to where it needs to go and restore that functionality, right?
I don’t want to uninstall and reinstall the core Geodirectory files for fear of losing all my settings and having to start over again…
Thanks for any help you can offer,
Lisa
June 16, 2016 at 10:24 pm #209978The Author page is never in the WP pages list.
Your author page is probably there, install the GD Login widget and if the links to My Places or My favorites work, then you are looking at the author page.Post your WP admin details and URL in a private reply and we will have a check if you want us to.
If you need to fix missing files, download the ZIP file from https://wordpress.org/plugins/geodirectory/ to your computer, extract the files and overwrite all of them using FTP.
All settings are in the database, so they will not be changed by changing plugin files (which is not recommended anyway).

Ah, I see. As mentioned, it’s been awhile and I THOUGHT there was an Author page. What confuses things for me is that I DO have references to authors throughout the site… What geodirectory refers to as ‘Authors’ I would refer to as Users. It’s the definitions that are tripping me up.
I believe it is working through the login widget and I’ve FTP’d into the site and found geodir-author.php. Whew!
I’ve even managed to change some wording in claim listing. Yay!
Thanks for your attention and patience.

June 18, 2016 at 12:43 am #210712Make sure to do any translations (changing wording) using the correct way, do NOT change any plugin files, you will loose all your extra work in the next update.
See docs.wpgeodirectory.com/category/translation/
June 22, 2016 at 5:12 pm #214097I think I’ve followed the directions correctly.
What I’m not exactly clear on is if it’s language connected to the Claim Listing add-on, where does that language get changed? In the geodirectory-en_US.po file or in the geodirclaim-en_US.po file? I see something called ‘Business Owner’ in the goedirectory-en_US.po file – I want it to say ‘Claim Listing’ instead, but if I change it there will this make the change in the Claim Listing add-on? And does only the geodirectory-en_US.mo file get added to the wp-content/languages/geodirectory directory? Or does the .po file get added as well?
I hope I’m making sense… I have no experience changing translation files so I’m trying to understand it.
Thanks,
L.
June 22, 2016 at 10:33 pm #214279You really only need to upload the MO file to the correct folder for things to work.
I am pretty sure what you want to translate is in the Claim addon language file.
You cannot break anything with wrong translations, so it is safe to try things out and see if the correct thing changes.June 22, 2016 at 10:57 pm #214284 -
