I have just imported from an old phpmydirectory site onto GeoDirectory on WP and trying to update and clean up the directory.

When trying to update some of our places. The categories past a certain point down won’t stay updated when updating the place and revert back to what it was before.

We do have allot of categories and some listings have allot on them so not sure if that’s affecting it but any help would be appreciated.

    Thank You

Any word on a workaround on this from the developers? It’s stalling us from continuing on and getting the directory up and going on GeoDirectory.

No, the developers do not have a workaround because this is a limit of the database, generally speaking.

By database you mean MySQL? It just that it looks like the listing categories imported fine.

Yes, the limit is about how many characters are stored for a field.

    Hi @gnhinc,

Instead of many categories it is good if categories split into custom post type.

Category field has limit of 254 characters in database. To increase field limit add PHP snippet provided at here https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/topic/soft-maximum-for-categories-per-company/#post-493949

After adding PHP snippet just run a tool GeoDirectory > Status > Tools > Clear versions. After doing this it will allow to store categories as many you want.

    Regards,
    Kiran

    Hi Kiran,

Thank you for the info and the php snippet, its working so far!

Will look into reorganizing and splitting categories into CPTs in the future. We are just in a crunch at the moment.

    Thank you for the support.
