Directions for Mobile Users

    When a mobile user wants directions to a venue, they have to enter there physical location. Is there a way for the app find the users current location via the phone and use this information to calculate a route?

    Hi Alex,

    Yes, we do have that functionality in GD which is called “Geolocation” and you will need a SSL certificate and your website running under https:// . Ref : https://wpgeodirectory.com/adding-a-ssl-certificate-to-your-website/ . Then you’d need to install the “Advanced Search” addon in order to use the near feature https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/gd-search/#near . Finally, we have a custom field type called “Get directions” you can add this from GD > Place settings > Predefined Fields > Get Directions.
    This will add a get directions link which on mobile will open google maps and show you directions to the place, is this what you are after?

    Thank you for your reply. Yes that sounds about right. I have a SSL certificate that I can link the domain to. I will set it up and test.

    Hi,

    I have installed an SSL cert to the domain and added the Get Directions field. This works very well, but the original problem still exists:

    On the Map tab of a place the ‘Get Directions’ still requires you to enter your location whether using a mobile phone or computer. The question I will be getting is:

    If using a mobile phone the location should come from the phones location or if using a computer enter a postcode or equivalent.

    It is not in current roadmap and it is a feature that very few requested in the past (reason why we never worked on it).

    I asked to Stiofan what he thinks and especially how much time it would take. If the time needed to make it happen isn’t prohibitive we might as well consider it.

    He’ll let us know asap.
