Hi,
I’m using Directory starter (with a child theme) Version: 2.0.0.4 and V2.
Is there any built in breadcrumbs, either with WP Geodirectory V2 or Directory starter 2?
I believe there used to be breadcrumbs with Directory starter V1 ?Thanks!
February 14, 2019 at 6:13 pm #468983Hi Anders,
You could try Yoast breadcrumbs in the meantime.
https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/integrations/yoast/#breadcrumbsFebruary 14, 2019 at 8:51 pm #468995Thank you Kor,
Yes I have tried that earlier and from what I recall, Yoast is not completely compatible with WPGeodirectory in that taxonomies are not visible, on archive pages?
Now, I’m pretty sure this could be fixed with a little customization however before I set out do that, I would appreciate if you could just please answer the following questions:1. You say “try Yoast breadcrumbs in the meantime”, does that mean breadcrumbs are planned for Directory starter? and in that case when?
2. Do you recommend Yoast for SEO purposes when building WPGeodirectory sites? It seems to me like you have done a solid job with SEO already with WPGoedirectory alone?
I’m very comfortable with Yoast and have used it a lot on other sites but I don’t want to install it for that reason
…especially if it means I will have to customize it to make it work with WP Geodirectory (like with breadcrumbs)Thanks!
February 14, 2019 at 10:33 pm #4690101. Currently we are recommending the use of Yoast for breadcrumbs. Breadcrumbs may be added in later versions, but we have done some work to make Yoast breacrumbs work better. If you try them out let us know what you think.
2. Yes. GD doesn’t make sitemaps or have settings to verify your site ownership with search.
February 15, 2019 at 11:11 am #469122Thank you Alex, sounds good!
I will try Yoast again and let you know how it goes here
February 15, 2019 at 12:52 pm #469142Hi again,
Unfortunately Yoast breadcrumbs doesn´t work very well.
I have placed [wpseo_breadcrumb] shortcaode in my gd-details and gd-archive -pages.-The CPT category is not visible on archive pages
-For both archive and details the full Country/Region/City path is visible but we have checked “Hide country part of url for LISTING, CPT and LOCATION pages”Under Yoast I have marked our gd_place CPT under “gd_placecategory” for “Content type archive to show in breadcrumbs for taxonomies”
Under GeoDirectory permalinks, we have this setting:/%cpt_slug%/%category%/%city%/%postname%/
but our gd_place details Yoast breadcrumbs look like this:
Home » “gd_place” » country » region » city » category » “postname”Thanks!
February 15, 2019 at 1:38 pm #469150Hello,
thanks for giving it a try and providing some feedback.
We won’t be doing any work on the Yoast integration at this time, but we can try to take a look again once we have completed our current priorities.
Instead you might consider getting a theme that has the features you are looking for.
February 15, 2019 at 10:45 pm #469320Ok,
I might try the filters that Yoast has built in to see how far I get with that.
I can report here if I have any progress.…is there any theme you can recommend?
Thanks!
February 15, 2019 at 10:50 pm #469321No, we don’t recommend any particular themes.
On the subject, though, I would recommend choosing a popular theme that meets your budget, that works with the builder you prefer, and that has the basic options you need built in.
See this doc for some items to keep in mind when trying out new themes:
https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/themes/February 17, 2019 at 3:34 pm #469502Thank you Alex!
1.
Can you please give an example how I can retrieve/access the current city as a variable in code? …that I can use when constructing/setting conditionals for my custom breadcrumb?
I have searched but not found anything on this for V22.Do you have plans for upgrading Directory starter with breadcrumbs or is the general recommendation to find an external parter for theme?
Thanks!
February 17, 2019 at 5:43 pm #469507Hello,
as previously mentioned. we are going to defer work (and comments), simply due to prioritization of other work items at the moment.
February 17, 2019 at 7:57 pm #469509I was just wondering if there is a ready way to retrieve/access the current city as a variable in code? …I believe you could use geodir_get_current_location -function with V1
February 17, 2019 at 8:37 pm #469526You can look at how the GD Location Description element works:
https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/design-elements/#gd_location_descriptionFebruary 17, 2019 at 9:29 pm #469545Awesome, thank you!
February 20, 2019 at 1:21 pm #470198Hi again,
Unfortunately it looks like I will have to postpone breadcrumbs, I have tried a number of plugins and themes without success.
Before I set out to further customize our layout I would really appreciate if you could comment on what the general recommendation is when it comes to customizing WP Geodirectory based sites.
(I have already read the themes article https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/themes/ )
Are there any specific pros/cons sticking with WP Geodirectoery developed themes?
Do you have further plans for Directory starter?
Or would it be wiser finding a “theme partner” that focus on theme development?
Most likely we will not be using any page builders. Thanks!
