    Hi,

I am finding the process of entering listing data locations really difficult. The listing will not save until I have entered an address (which is so annoying when I have entered all the other stuff in all the other fields), but often the address cannot be found, so I can’t get a latitude/longitude to auto populate. Google maps now costs, so I switched to open maps but the speed is appalling.

Not only that, but everything defaults to a location you set at setup and getting the city to change you can’t do without changing the county (which means I often have to go and google it because we don’t always put the county on our addresses if they are in big towns).

Then I turned off maps because as long as I can enter the address as text that is fine, but the listing still requires a lat/lon and I don’t have one unless I go and spend ages working this out for each listing…

This has always been the clunkiest thing about the directory plugin for me and I’m just wondering how I can make this easier?

I realise the whole point is that you can search for things near you, but this most fundamental objective is the most difficult of all to achieve. I’m at my wits end having tried to add a few new listings over the last couple of days, it’s just taking up far too much time.

Any suggestions? Maybe I am doing it all wrong?

Is there a suggested order/process for getting a correct location into a listing that means I don’t have to keep repeating actions and changing fields and attempting to save things over and over that just don’t work?

    Thank you.

To follow up, this has helpful options if anyone else is tearing their hair out over entering location data:

Have you considered importing listings using a CSV file? Then lat and lng will be automatically calculated as part of the import process if you use a geolocation API key.

Have you tried the address autocomplete, then you should not need the county?
Have you tried just dragging the marker on the map to the correct spot?

Google Maps only will cost if you have heaps and heaps of API calls.

    Thanks

Hi Guust – I’ve just looked in google maps and you’re right – it should be free for the traffic I have. That makes a BIG difference, so I will reenable it.
    Thank you.
