The directory I am building includes home-based small businesses. I would like to include the City, Region, Postal Code, but not the street address. Is this possible?

I have the Location Manger add-on, because I am also including online businesses, but I want to add a city to these local businesses.

    Thanks,

    Susan

    Hi Susan,

Thanks for your post. A full address is mandatory for a listing. If you do not need an address entirely, you can create a new CPT and can use the “Disable physical location” option here https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/places/general/#settings to achieve what you needed there.

    Hi Kor,

I have done that, but that doesn’t address the problem. These are NOT online businesses. These are businesses that have locations (like Bnb’s) but the exact location is not publicly displayed.

It is 2020. A LOT of people work from home, but don’t necessarily want their full address made public. Only the their city/town.

Is GeoDirectory planning on taking this into account in a future upgrade?

Is there a work around for this?

    Thanks,

    Susan

As a workaround consider the following:

    1. The street address field is the main field where you would type ‘123 My St.’ but you can add any address you want, there, as long as something is added. A BnB might add “Near the center square”.

    2. The Map Pin can also be placed anywhere. There is an option in the Location tab (settings) to disable address update if the pin is moved.

    3. Field Descriptions are yours to change. Use them to give instructions to your listing owners about how to use the street and map pin to their advantage.

    4. GD Post Address gives you complete control of what you display. I recommend you use that in your details page sidebar to setup and (advanced) template that simply shows the city as the address, instead of the street. That is absolutely possible to do.

    Thanks Alex,

That is helpful. I have changed the street field to include the city, and disabled the city field. That changes it in the sidebar, however:

    1. The city field still shows up as a mandatory field (with star).

    2. I am using the Listimia theme and the city still gets added to the address on the top of the listing, so it shows up twice at the top of the listing page, so it is: 123 Bank Street, City, City. Where is this being pulled from? Should I open a ticket with Listimia re this?

Unrelated (not sure if you want a separate ticket for these), but also stuck on these:

    a) I have the CPT add-on and have created a couple of categories. I would like them to sort alphabetically in the search box, but they seem to be sorted by date (more recent first). How do I change this?

    b) Not sure if this is a question for Listimia, but I have disabled comments on the pages, but just above the address at the top of the listing it says “No Comments”. How do I remove this?

    c) Do comments have to be disabled on each page, or is there a way to disable all comments on pages?

    Thanks,

    Susan

The city field is required, yes.

Yes, talk to the theme author if that address is not accessible to you.

    a) I have the CPT add-on and have created a couple of categories. I would like them to sort alphabetically in the search box, but they seem to be sorted by date (more recent first). How do I change this?

These are sorted by date and listing count. There isn’t currently a setting to change that but I will make a note for the developers to consider that for future versions.

    b) Not sure if this is a question for Listimia, but I have disabled comments on the pages, but just above the address at the top of the listing it says “No Comments”. How do I remove this?

Again, if you don’t have access to that area of the theme then contact the theme authors. We can help with some CSS to hide it if you can share a link to the page.

    c) Do comments have to be disabled on each page, or is there a way to disable all comments on pages?

There is a global setting in WP – Settings – Discussion.
Then you can use bulk edit to disable comments for existing listings.

Thanks Alex. I have opened a ticket with Listimia re my theme related questions.

Re “These are sorted by date and listing count. There isn’t currently a setting to change that but I will make a note for the developers to consider that for future versions.”

I am not sure if my question was clear, but I poked around in the settings and found the solution. For each CPT, under General –> Advanced Settings, there is:
    Order in post type list:
I just changed the numbers for the CPT’s so that they were in alphabetical order (with 1, with first). 🙂

Excellent! Yes, I misunderstood and thought you meant the autocomplete category.
