I’m planning a site that will have thousands of places, all in a single small country. I’d like a homepage where:

    1. the map shows all places on initial load
    2. the listings below are paged, even though the map shows all places
    3. the listings only show places in current map area (i.e. when I zoom way in to a small city with only 8 places, only those 8 listings will show).

For part 1, I was looking at the marker cluster add on and wondered if this might be something I’d want to use in such a scenario to accomplish part 1?

For part 2, I found this from a few years ago:

    https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/topic/show-all-listings-on-map/

but it looked like it was a customization so wasn’t sure if there was some better approach that has been developed in the years since.

For part 3, I found this from a few years ago:

    https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/topic/gmap-listing-page-show-other-places-within-area/

which seems to suggest it wasn’t a feature or planned but I wondered if anything has changed since then or if you have a documented feature request for it (and if so what its status is).

Is this scenario possible? If not, which part(s) are not? Thanks!

    Hi kairei,

    1. How many places are we talking? If its over say 2k you might be better with the marker cluster. You can set the map to auto zoom to show all the listings, that is not a problem.

    2. There are two ways to go about this but it can be done.

    3. We don’t have the ability to update the listings via the map zoom yet but it is something we are talking about, just now you would have to use the location switcher to achieve something like this.

If you need anything clarified just ask 🙂

    Thanks,

    Stiofan

    Ok, great, thanks!

    1. It will be under 2K for the foreseeable future. If I do need it later, is it just a simple enabling of the module to switch to clusters with no big changes required?

    2. Great! Are there any docs detailing the two methods or can you give me the starting off points if it requires customizations?

    3. Ok, thanks for the update.

    #1 Yes.

#2 Well one option would be to place a map shortcode on the top of the listings (category) pages and the other option would be to have a normal page with a map shortcode and a listings shortcode. Or if you just have one CPT you could just add the homemap to the listings page top section.
You can see the core shortcodes here: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-shortcodes/

    Thanks,

    Stiofan
