    Hi Guys

I’ve been playing around with GD for about a month now, I’ve managed to set up all areas of my site except for the GD stuff as I seem to be going round in circles with getting it to look presentable. I’m using divi but it doesn’t work very well with the GD plugin.

I’m trying to setup up a directory for 3.3m businesses in 800 categories across the UK. I have set up a CPT called “Business” and imported categories including parent cats.

I have a bunch of questions.

First off, do you offer paid support in setting this up?

When I import data, categories are not included. I am following the same format as the export file.

How do I edit addresses and other info from the wp-admin area? Where do I control featured listings? I can’t find anywhere to edit custom fields once setup, neither can I export them to re-import the data I need. My fields data for both front and back end use, such as company type, number, duns, sic codes etc, and my own IDs and cat IDs that would be needed for admin use only.

What’s the difference between the custom fields on the Edit pages to the ones I create via Custom Fields add-on? Is one is user facing and the other is not? How do I import to both field sets?

How do I display custom fields, or general listing data on the profile page (archive-item or gd-details? i can’t figure out which is the page I need to edit)

How does a user claim a listing? I can’t find any buttons or mention of this in the pages or shortcodes.

Is there any way I can use the countries England, Scotland, Wales? rather than Great Britain.

How do I remove “places” from the search bar? Or remove the drop down completely?

I have Parent Company, Branch Name and Location Name in my data,
i.e. Google (parent company), Nest (Branch Name) Nest Store London (Business Name).
I’d like to use branch as the top level of the franchise, is it possible to import this.

My data is already in a SQL database with most of the geocodes, is it possible to move the data from one db to another avoiding exporting/importing the data via csv?

I set up buddypress and youzer, which works and looks great, however when I edit a listing from there, it takes me to the “add business” page. When I change something, the location fields get wiped and I have to update them again. Is there any way to 1. stop the data being wiped, 2. have the page title say edit rather than add?

I’d like to make the business listing pages look similar to the user profile pages that come from youzer, do you have any documentation that lists the css elements you’ve used are, and what the short codes look like on the front end by default? Or can you provide assistance in styling it?

I added a default image for listings, now it appears in the photo gallery of every business added, is it possible to just have it on the search results?

How do I align the social icons on the search results, my listings have every element stepped making the height of the rows massive. see attachment.

I’d like to change the login page to my own, I’ve created a page but can’t find where to assign it.

how to I change the default red map pointer? I changed the icon in my FTP but it didn’t work.

    Thanks in advance
    Matt

do you offer paid support in setting this up?

You can find paid support here: https://geodirectoryexperts.com

When I import data, categories are not included. I am following the same format as the export file.

Categories must be imported first. You can then export them to acquire the category ID which is needed for the listing import.

    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/settings/import-export/

How do I edit addresses and other info from the wp-admin area? Where do I control featured listings? I can’t find anywhere to edit custom fields once setup, neither can I export them to re-import the data I need. My fields data for both front and back end use, such as company type, number, duns, sic codes etc, and my own IDs and cat IDs that would be needed for admin use only.

For the frontend editor, add the GD Author actions widget to the GD Sidebar or as a shortcode to the Details page template.

    For backend edits,

Edit individual listing addresses by editing the listing. For “Places” for examples,

WP Backend – Places – Edit

Our recommended import process is here. At which step are you seeing the issue? https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/settings/import-export/#recommended

What’s the difference between the custom fields on the Edit pages to the ones I create via Custom Fields add-on? Is one is user facing and the other is not? How do I import to both field sets?

They are the same. If a field is marked “Admin only” then it is only visible to admins.

Make sure your fields are set to “active” or they won’t show up.

How do I display custom fields, or general listing data on the profile page (archive-item or gd-details? i can’t figure out which is the page I need to edit)

The Archive page like /places/ displays lots of listings, and the mini listings are using the Archive Item template. Click on a title or photo in an archive item to go to the Details page template.

    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/templates/

How does a user claim a listing? I can’t find any buttons or mention of this in the pages or shortcodes.

Once the Claim Manager addon is installed, add the GD > Post Claim widget or shortcode to the GD Details page, either in the template or the sidebar. That will show a popup form.

    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/addons/claim/

Is there any way I can use the countries England, Scotland, Wales? rather than Great Britain.

You can always add custom locations, but using the maps API means user listings won’t need post processing, specifically merging them into the custom locations.

How do I remove “places” from the search bar? Or remove the drop down completely?

If you remvoe all places listings and categories, places will disapear.

I have Parent Company, Branch Name and Location Name in my data,
i.e. Google (parent company), Nest (Branch Name) Nest Store London (Business Name).
I’d like to use branch as the top level of the franchise, is it possible to import this.

Franchise can be imported, but the parent must be created first in order to generate the ID.

My data is already in a SQL database with most of the geocodes, is it possible to move the data from one db to another avoiding exporting/importing the data via csv?

No, we cannot provide support for that here.

I set up buddypress and youzer, which works and looks great, however when I edit a listing from there, it takes me to the “add business” page. When I change something, the location fields get wiped and I have to update them again. Is there any way to 1. stop the data being wiped, 2. have the page title say edit rather than add?

You can change the page title by editing the page and changing the title. We can check on the issue of data being wiped, see below.

I’d like to make the business listing pages look similar to the user profile pages that come from youzer, do you have any documentation that lists the css elements you’ve used are, and what the short codes look like on the front end by default? Or can you provide assistance in styling it?

No, but we have a couple demos that show how things can look: https://wpgeo.directory

Here in the forum we can help with CSS to hide elements, if there aren’t GD Options for doing so. For custom design you would need to create your own CSS or hire a developer.

I added a default image for listings, now it appears in the photo gallery of every business added, is it possible to just have it on the search results?

GD Post Images will always use the fallback images. You would need to use GD Post Meta to show an image on the archive item.

How do I align the social icons on the search results, my listings have every element stepped making the height of the rows massive. see attachment.

It could be your theme is adding some padding. Are you using a text block like a classic editor? Try moving the shortcodes to an HTML block so that wordpress doesn’t insert additional text formatting.

I’d like to change the login page to my own, I’ve created a page but can’t find where to assign it.

Try using a menu item to send your users to the login/registration page before sending them to the add-listing page. Have you already installed the BuddyPress integration addon?

I cannot login to the site because of a password screen.

Please share complete access details in a followup private reply if we need to check the settings.

    Hello!

Every GD site will have a GD Details page template and a GD Archive template, but if those templates have only the default content, then you will need to add the additional elements like GD Post Address to ‘personalize’ it.

    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/geodirectory/personalize/

You can edit the WP pages from the backend, then use the shortcode builder to add shortcodes, or, for the details page, add widgets to the sidebar that is showing there.

    Hello,

The text block on the Details page has the default content.

Instead of editing that I added the address to the tabs as an example. You can see it now in the profile tab on the business listings.

Any of the GD elements can be added directly to the Detail template, or included through the tabs.
