In the Core it has the tab Set Default Location. I do not want to use physical locations though as all listings in the directory will be purely online. Do I still need to set a default location?
Is there an instruction for setting up a non-physical directory?
Thank you for your help.

December 16, 2018 at 12:11 am #458767You will need the Custom Post Type addon to turn off address requirements for listings.
See https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-general/#physicalThanks
December 16, 2018 at 5:19 am #458774Thanks Guust.
December 16, 2018 at 5:23 am #458776You’re welcome 🙂
December 16, 2018 at 5:49 am #458777I have purchased the add on. There are two zip files there. If I interpret correctly one for GDv1 and the other one for GDv2.
Is v2 a newer version of the Core plugin?
December 16, 2018 at 6:29 am #458781Correct, see more at https://wpgeodirectory.com/try-geodirectory-v2/
If you are starting a new site, we recommend you start with V2.
The documentation is here: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/
Use only V1 plugins or V2 plugins, you cannot use V1 with V2 and vice versa. Thanks
December 16, 2018 at 6:37 am #458783Thanks Guust (funny you have this Flemish character as your avatar).
As I am such a newbie to this, I am wondering if v2 will not give me any problems. Since it is not the final version.
December 16, 2018 at 8:53 am #458802Not that funny really because I am Flemish 🙂
December 16, 2018 at 10:55 am #458819V2 shoudln’t give you any problems, but if you run into them, post into a new topic and we will help.
December 18, 2018 at 7:16 am #459105Thanks guys. Will dive right into V2.
And Guust, congrats on beating us (the Dutch male field hockey team) for the world championship 😉
December 18, 2018 at 11:36 am #459135OK I have installed all the V2 versions, addons, themes etc. Finding CoreV2 not as intuitive as V1.
Anyway, I am running some tests to see if the Custom Post Type add on, works the way I had in mind. When adding listings, I have to add an address to the listing. My directory however, is a non-physical directory. Can I remove the mandatory address somehow?
In the link that Guust shared, https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-general/#physical it says something about disabling physical location. I seem to recall doing so in V1, but in V2, I do not see such an option, although I could be overlooking it. In advanced GD Settings I selected Disable map.
December 18, 2018 at 11:44 am #459138Also I have to add a Map Icon to each listing. Without it, it will not save.
December 18, 2018 at 11:50 am #459141You will need the Custom Post Types addon. Once that is installed, to remove the physical location, you go to
CTP, Settings, General, Advanced, Disable physical location
That will completely remove the address field. You can add back a text field called street address if you still want an address on the listing but want to be rid of maps and other GD integrations related to the location.
Each category requires a map icon, yes.
December 18, 2018 at 12:01 pm #459143Hi Alex,
Thanks for your prompt answer.
I already have Custom Post Types installed.
I cannot go to CTP. I can go to GeoDirectory and there is a tab Post Types in it, but no settings. Within GeoDirectory I can go to Settings, General, Advanced, but I don´t see Disable Physical Location. I am in Corev2. Is it named differently there?
And why would I need to add a map icon, if I do not use a map or a physical location?
