Great, Is the translation from wp.org just not complete enough or are you just changing wording?

When I upload my translation file, afterwards the backend says that there are new translations. When I update the translations in the backend, in /wp-content/languages/plugins will overwrite my translation file. That means, everything I translated in German, is now in the language file English again.

    Example: “Review”
In my translation is here “Bewertung”.
After I have updated the translations in the backend, my language file is overwritten and it is again “Review” in the file.

    Hello,

GeoDirectory’s core plugin translations are maintained on WordPress.org here:

    https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp-plugins/geodirectory

We highly recommend that translation be completed there so as to be able to take advantage of automatic updates. You can find some of the members helping with German translation here:

Somehow we will not get any further. I still have the problem that my translation file is overwritten by the gd translation file of WordPress.org. Unfortunately the translation of WordPress.org is not complete. The word “review” is not translated. I like to provide my translation. It is the same translation as WordPress.org, except that the word “review” is translated here. I attach my translation with me.

Nevertheless, I do not understand the logic of gd. Why am I given no opportunity to use my own translation. In such a way that it will not overwritten by WordPress or updates? Why does this work with other plugins, but not with gd?

    Hi Samuel,

    Let me explain the situation.

GD core is on wp.org, our addons are not, we have not added anything special to GD to force it to overwrite the translations, this is how WP works, if it sees you have a translation file active it will update it with the latest from wp.org. We would encourage you to keep the wp.org translation upto date.

If you really want you can filter where WP looks for the GD translation and that won’t be overwritten https://developer.wordpress.org/reference/hooks/load_textdomain_mofile/

    Thanks,

    Stiofan

I made my translation suggestions on wp-org. The suggestions were accepted and the language file adapted. This has solved the problem for me. Many Thanks!

That is great to hear! Feel free to message us on Slack to connect with more GD translators.
This is what we want to hear, that adding updates to WP.org translations makes life easier!
