    Hi guys,

new issue coming right up :))

my Romanian GeoDirectory core translation keeps getting overwritten with the old translation file (a previous version of my translation from more than 6 months ago I think). This happened 2 times in the last week ( from last Tuesday, until today). I uploaded my correct translation in wp-content/languages/plugins/

    Why is this happening?

    Thanks,
    Vlad

We have heard that this is a feature of Loco Translate.

    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/known-issues/#loco

Are you using any translation plugins?

    Hi Alex,

I am not using Loco Translate.

I am only using WPML with a single feature ” language switcher”. I don’t use it to translate directly any files.

I only translated using your recommendations.

Sure Alex, I will send all the credentials, but let me ask you first: at this moment (like right now) I am adding new listings on my website for a new client.

If you login now to check my ‘issue’, should I save my work and log off, or I can continue working on adding new listings?

    Thanks,
    Vlad

By default you should be able to continue.

If we can’t find the issue we will flag it for the developers to take a look.

    Hi Vlad,

You have put .mo/.po language files at /wp-content/languages/plugins/, /wp-content/languages/geodirectory/ & at /plugins/geodirectory/geodirectory-languages/. Which one contains most recent translation strings?

Use most recent .mo/.po files at /wp-content/languages/plugins/ and remove from other places.

Let us know how it goes.

    Kiran

    Hi Kiran

Ok. maybe I didn’t explain it so well.

I have 2 words that need a correct translation, 2 words that I don’t like how they sound in Romanian. One is “sit web” (the translation for website) and the second one is “recenzii” (the translation for reviews). My correct translation file does not contain these two words and it was put under wp-content/languages/plugins/geodirectory-ro_RO.po and the same .mo .

After a week I think, in this location it seems there is another file, a wrong file…with different size, different words count…I don’t know what file it is…how old or what previous version…because we only did once or twice this po file and we did it without these 2 words.

Now about that 2 other locations…we put there some files exactly because we have had trouble with this file and they are different too. This simply happened, we didn’t have a logic in this, we just wanted to be sure that the problem will not reappear …now let me explain what those two files contain:
#1. the file under wp-content/languages/geodirectory doesn’t contain these 2 words that I don’t need (sit web and recenzii). So its very good. If geodirectory takes its translations from here, it’s very good because it’s a file without those 2 unwanted words.
#2. the other file under wp-content/plugins/geodirectory/geodirectory-languages contains only the word recenzii, and not sit web…so, if geodirectory gets its translations from here….we should have a problem only with one word…but the reality is that I have a problem with both words now (sit web and recenzii) – they continue to reappear oncea week almost…..so this two specific scenarios are doing nothing….its null for me.

The only mo file that contains these two words together is under wp-content/languages/plugins…and it’s a wrong mo file. Every single time that I have tried to fix this problem, I simply uploaded the good file in this location that contains 2005 words translated and its exactly the amount of words from the original US.po file that was declared by the geodirectory plugin and it doesn’t contain these 2 unwanted words (sit web and recenzii). Now the file that is under wp-content/languages/plugins which contains the two wrong words… where did it appear from ?

This is what it’s troubeling me. Because I’ll put the good file back and I am afraid it will happen again. Guaranteed. And it’s clearly that from this location geodirectory gets the translations – as you suggested. So, what is happening?

Hope I was clear in this huge amount of text 🙂

Please send us most recent geodirectory-ro_RO.po file which contains all the correct strings. I will check it putting under /wp-content/languages/plugins/ location.

Attach file in zip archive or tell us at which location you have most recent file.

    Hi,

I have put files you provided at /wp-content/languages/plugins/ and now translation is displayed as per that files.

Please check and let us know if you find any incorrect string.

    Hi Kiran,

things seem to be all right now. Should I expect to encounter this overwriting issue again?

    thanks,
    Vlad

Whenever you want to update language strings, do it in files at /wp-content/languages/plugins/. If you follow this then there is no change of issue again. 🙂
