    Hello,

gd is a great plugin – ty

I searched the forum before posting. But not shure i used the right keywords due to not speaking a natural english.
So if this subject already was covered and i did not find it – sorry.

    Problem:
I want to use a website screenshot instead of category image in listings, when there is no image for that entry.
I did not find an option for that in gd settings. Its for example is offered in PlugIns like Pretty Links

    My Environment:
For my start i installed only gd V2 with location manager and advanced search
I have the latest WP Network Installation – folder structure, php, mysql, apache versions. permalink %%posts%% It works fine.

I import addresses via csv files.
they contain an URL of the website, but no image. So by default, the category image is displayed for search results or gd archive listings.

To display a screenshot of the website as an archive listing preview image instead of the gd category image, I use the PlugIn Browser Screenshots.

If the shortcode of this plug in, to generate the WebSite preview is entered in the title of a GeoDirectory post, the different listings o show the WebSite screenshot.

example – 4 entries. first entry uses the screenshot generating plugin shortcode – the others use the category image

    https://mein-garten.de/adressen/search/?geodir_search=1&stype=gd_place&s=zauber&snear=&sort_by=&slandkreis___stadtkreis=&sgeo_lat=&sgeo_lon=

Shortcode used in the title field of geodir entry:

    <p style=”visibility:hidden”>[browser-shot url=”http://www.anjas-zauberwald.de/” alt=”Adresseintrag Ania’s Zauberwald” width=”400″ height=”300″ display_link=”false”]<br></p>Anja’s Zauberwald Blumen</p>

Screenshot with mouse over text – generated screenshot:
    https://mein-garten.de/adressen//wp-content/uploads/2019/markus/1-entry-mouse-over-wired-text.PNG

Screenshot with mouse over text – category image:
    https://mein-garten.de/adressen//wp-content/uploads/2019/markus/2-entry-mouse-over-ok-geodir-category-name.PNG
Entering the PlugIns shortcode into a normal WP Post does not cause such a cryptic text when mouse over the preview image.

    Question 1:
Is there a way to avoid that cryptic text when mouse over happens

    Question 2:
Is there another solution, how i could generate images for entries in gd?

I am discussing the problem as well with the developer of the plugin Browser Shot here

    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/featured-image-with-geodirectory/
Hope u have an idea to solve that, thanks in advance – markus

Shortcode used in the title is generating cryptic text.

Can you share a link to the site? maybe we can figure it out from the markup.

Haven’t seen or heard of other plugins for this.

    Hi Alex,

    ty for answering so quick.

Do uyou mean a link where that happens – or admin username and password?

Here is a link where u can see what happens.
its the first entry top left with the shortcode in the title.

The other 3 entries dont have an image and use the category image.
Here the mouse over shows the category name.

    https://mein-garten.de/adressen/search/?geodir_search=1&stype=gd_place&s=zauber&snear=&sort_by=&slandkreis___stadtkreis=&sgeo_lat=&sgeo_lon=

Same happens, when u choose the map of this entry and mouse over the icon or, when you cklick the icon.

    hi,

I asked a developer to check why it works with post titles and not with our titles.

    They’ll let you know asap.

    Thanks for your patience.

    Hello again Alex and Paolo,

    Question one:
Is it possible to enter a shortcode for website image generation in the post_images field instead of the URL? This would also solve my problem of having a preview image of the website as a screenshot, and avoid having only the category image displayed in the listings.

    Question 2:
Is there an export filter by categories?
I am revising my data by categories in Open Office Calc. For this I export the csv files. Unfortunately I only find one filter by date for the export. If all my addresses are integrated, that’s about 250,000 ADresses. So I would always have to export all 250,000 in order to be able to work on the 4000 tree nurseries. That is not thought so surely.

    Have a nice day, Markus

I would recommend creating a custom HTML field for that shortcode. That is the only field type designed to take shortcode.

    2. You can try the new WP All Import plugin, that is why we built it. It is available from your downloads page here on this site.

    Part 1
    Ty Alex,

    1. Custom html field.
I want to get a website preview as a thumbnail instead of the category image, which is used, when there is no image. Shown in archives or listings of search results.

There is no Problem to put the shortcode in the enty text. That works fine. Website preview is generated and shown at the detaille page.

    part 2
seems the link i wanted to send as an example forbids me to poste.

A well it gets shown when i put the shortcode into the title.
Only mouse over the image shows a cryptic text instead of the category Name. That confuses people.

So? Would a shortcode in a custom html field really get shown as a thumbnail pic in archives and search result listings? I dont think so. It gets shown with the detaille page. Am i wrong? I will try that. anyway.

    2. WP All Import plugin
Sorry i missed that – i tried to start with gd lean in my learning phase – only with few extra gd plugins. I will try that.tx, thats great news.

Have a nice day – markus

You can always export GD Listings with the built in functionality:

    Ty
Is there a way to use a gd_category as a filter, when exporting.
    Instead of adding Post Types.
For me it seems Poste Types and Categories are same.

    Example:
I have a category Flower Shop (4000 entries)
and category tree nursery (6000) entries)

Now i want to export only the Flower Shops into a csv file to overwork it with open calc.

Have i really to add new post types first with same names as the categories, to filter the flower shops? This is double taxonomy
Why there is no filter for categories, when exporting? I could not find it. Only Filters for Poste Type and date. I dont want to export 1000000 of adresses all time, when i only need the flower shops.

    Thanks in advance – markus
