Hi! We have a very extensive multisite network and we prefer not to “Network Activate” any of our plugins. In addition, we do NOT want to ever allow any of our plugins to auto update.

I am willing to Network Activate your WP Easy Update plugin if that’s absolutely necessary (yours would be the only one of over 100). However, I do not want to allow any auto updates.

Here is the message we are getting when trying to load the plugin:

The following constants are set and will prevent automatic updates in Easy Updates Manager.
Please check your wp-config.php file or other files for these constants and remove them to allow Easy Updates Manager to have control.

WP_AUTO_UPDATE_CORE: This constant disables WordPress core from being automatically updated.

We just signed up for your Membership program today and wanted to start loading the addons, so we’re wondering if there’s a workaround that we can use that doesn’t require us to turn on “auto updates” system wide – which for security and daily operations isn’t an option for us.

    Thank You!

    Hi coach,

Thanks for your post. The “WP Easy Update plugin” will not auto-update a plugin without your consent. This plugin will notify you when there is an update available for any GD addons and provides a link that requires you to manually click to update. https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/addons/installing-addons/#updates

That’s good to know that the plugin will not auto-update. However, it looks like the plugin is requiring us to change that setting system-wide, so other plugins would potentially be able to auto-update.

Is there a way to have the plugin work without requiring that setting be changed to allow auto-updating?

If not, is there a workaround that will allow us to load the plugin addons without having to use the plugin?

I especially hope that setting isn’t required to be changed when the plugin itself doesn’t even use auto-updating (which I’m glad to hear).

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

    Hi Coach,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, you can use the manual update instructions here https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/addons/installing-addons/#manual . Also, keep in mind that “GeoDirectory core and addons Cannot be network activated” as explained here https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs-v2/addons/installing-addons/#multisite

Thank you Kor! So, at this time, the WP Easy Update DOES require us to change that setting or we can’t use it, is that correct?

If so, I hope that’s something that can be changed for the future, since it sounded like the plugin was the preferred ready to go.

I’m very glad there is a manual option and will read about it on the links you sent us.

    Thank you again! 🙂

No, you don’t have to change the settings unless you want automatic updates.

Many of our members do manual updates, usually on a staging server first before production.

Thank you Alex! Is it possible to use the WP Easy Updates without changing that setting?

It appears that our system won’t let us use the plugin without having it network activated and without that setting being changed.

Or, should I forget about using the plugin and do everything manually instead – assuming that’s possible.

Thanks for your help! We’re excited to get started setting everything up as soon as we figure out how :).

    Hi Dori,

Thanks for your reply. Just remove that WP Easy Updates plugin if you wish to manually update the addons in the future. 🙂

    Thank you Stiofan!

My apologies for the confusion. When I searched for WP Easy Updates, the Easy Updates Manager came up on top and it was rated extremely high, so I assumed it was yours :). Didn’t even notice the name wasn’t right!

I didn’t realize the plugin wasn’t in the WordPress plugins area (or, if it is, it didn’t come up in my search).

Thanks for the link. I’ll add it to the plugins list now. As I mentioned, we have a multisite network, so my plan is to load it to the main list but activate it on the site with the Directory.

If that’s not the best plan, please let me know. Otherwise, I think I can get it online now.

    Thanks again for your help!
