Hi,
When I carry out a search for a place ie Lewes the URL is really long.
Ideally, I want the URL to be
https://discover.englandsbestplaces.co.uk/south_east_england/west_sussex/lewes
Thanks in advance.

January 25, 2018 at 9:30 am #414339Hello Mark,
Thanks for writing in. You are right, that URL is really long.
However, the search URLs are part of how the plugin operates, and changing the structure for search URLs is outside of what we can do here in support at this time.
I will flag this for a developer for a second opinion.
Regardless, we will keep this in mind for future versions, though, and thank you for pointing this out.
January 25, 2018 at 10:06 am #414346Hi Alex,
Thank you for your prompt reply.
Is this something I could get a developer to look at or is it a total ball ache to do.
All the best.

January 25, 2018 at 10:52 am #414351Hello,
Even Google doesn’t have ‘clean urls’ like that, so, I would shy away from it.
That said, you could perhaps make some nice links with a 301 redirect plug-in (3rd party).
You could then make shorter urls on your site that point to those search urls’ or others on your site.January 25, 2018 at 10:54 am #414353You may be interested in this article: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/searching-and-browsing/

Thanks for prompt reply.
Guust – we’re getting there. 😀
A few of questions
Can I change ‘location’ to something else
Also when I search for a particular town that has a place in it, the listing shows but there’s an error message on the map. (see attachment)
Can I hide the full-screen image so the map is the first thing you seehttps://discover.englandsbestplaces.co.uk/location/east-sussex/alfriston/
Thanks in advance.

January 25, 2018 at 1:08 pm #414372You can change location by changing the slug of the location page:
https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/layout/#introIn the Pages section of your WP admin dashboard, you can change the title and the slug of the page.
Adding this CSS should make the top section as small as possible:
sd-location .featured-area {height: 0 !important}
I suggest you add the location switcher: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/multilocations/#main
I don’t know why the map does not show the listing. I can see you have hidden the map legend, maybe you also ticked not to show some categories on the map.
We would need your WP admin details to check. Thanks
January 25, 2018 at 2:20 pm #414387Thanks Guust,
Tried changing the slug to ‘discover’ from ‘location’ but the page was blank (see screenshot).
Added the CCS but didn’t really work but thank you for the suggestion.
Turned on the location switcher. All works well but the boxes are very deep (see screenshot)
All the best.

January 25, 2018 at 2:28 pm #414393If you change a slug you need to re-save WP Settings > Permalinks.
If there is still anything that needs investigation, post your WP admin details in a private reply. Thanks
January 31, 2018 at 9:17 am #415105Hi Guust,
I have another question.
I’ve noticed that if I search on Google for Things to do in Dormansland a few of the results come up with Dormansland in the SEO Title, Slug and Meta description
For example
Things To Do In Dormansland | Day Out With The Kids
https://www.dayoutwiththekids.co.uk › South East and London › Surrey
Discover 830 family days out & fun things to do with kids in Dormansland. Find your family’s next adventure in the area!
https://www.dayoutwiththekids.co.uk/things-to-do/south-east-and-london/surrey/dormanslandor
Dormansland – things to do – fun days out – NeverBeBored.co.uk
http://www.neverbebored.co.uk › England › South East › Surrey
Dormansland – things to do, places to visit. Fun days out in Dormansland.
https://www.localsecrets.com/surrey/east-grinstead/dormansland/place.cfmSo to wrap it up I want someone to see https://discover.englandsbestplaces.co.uk/things-to-do/surrey/dormansland/ when they search for things to do in Dormansland or any other city, town or village in the UK. I believe I would have to change the slug ‘location’ to ‘things-to-do’
I hope you can help.

January 31, 2018 at 11:14 am #415118You can change the “location” slug to anything you like.
But the location pages are location specific.
So I would suggest you are better of to rename your CPT from /south-east-england/ to /things-to-do/
That would also change your detail pages to /things-to-do/pubs-and-bars-1/griffin-inn-fletching/ etcJanuary 31, 2018 at 4:47 pm #415195Thanks Guust,
I was more intrigued on how, when you search in Google for things to do in Dormansland, other websites take you to a page that shows all the places in Dormansland when clearly they don’t have a dedicated page on that particular location, also they manage to get the location name ie Dormansland into the their SEO Title, Slug and Meta description. A bit like I don’t have a dedicated page on Dormansland on my website but by typing in this url https://discover.englandsbestplaces.co.uk/location/surrey/dormansland/ I see all the places in Dormansland.
Cheers
Mark
January 31, 2018 at 10:18 pm #415232What do you mean with ” I don’t have a dedicated page on Dormansland”. https://discover.englandsbestplaces.co.uk/location/surrey/dormansland/ is the dedicated Dormansland page, and you can anything to that page you like.
If you want to add Dormansland into the their SEO Title, Slug and Meta description, have a look at GD > Metas and Titles: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/gd-core-plugin-titles-metas/
This will also be useful: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/location-manager-widgets/#desc
If you would change the setting at
GD > Permalinks > Add location in urls > yes >
then you would have location specific Listings pages too like https://discover.englandsbestplaces.co.uk/south-east-england/surrey/dormansland/Thanks
