Deactivate the Events addon. Before you do that visit the uninstall options in the GD settings and select events there, then remove events categories and listings, too.
Did you use the options in Post Types tab? Change all those, then visit the custom fields, too, to check the field labels if they say ‘Places’

We do offer a widget that comes with the WPML Multilingual addon to help with translating pages from the frontend.

You can try other settings, just let us know if you run into the issue again and we will take a deeper look. OK? You will just have the least potential for issues with a more complex URL, but we have error checking in place to prevent duplicates.
