If you set up multisite in subfolders, you activate GD only in the main site, and BBpress in the forum subfolder. Buddypress is activated in the main site and users have access to each subsite.

Not sure I understand. The CSS changes to the .goog-te-combo class are in your child theme’s stylesheet.

I know GD can be quite daunting in the beginning because it has so many options, but we’ll get you on the road if you like.All listings have to be in at least one category. You have no event categories.
You can only search within post types.
What search are they using?The design is changed at GD > design > Home, or by customising the template.
