If you choose to hide Places, all you need to do is delete all Places and Place categories.

Hi Robert, the name change shouldn’t be a problem.
Without knowing your server and hosting specifications, and other plugins you have, it’s very difficult to comment.Try taking notice of what’s triggering any errors, and if you have any more issues, then please post your URL and WP admin details in a private reply and we will have a look at your settings.

Install the Advanced Search addon.
Select the redirect to default location option.

1. I am guessing you enabled geolocation, or you have listings in other locations than your default location.
2. To only see listings from one region or city, use the location switcher: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/multilocations/#main
