I tried playing around with these options, no idea what they are meant to do – can someone please explain them???
These values made no difference to the results.
I changed the names of one of the listings and it made no difference to the sort order, it is not sorting alphabetically.

If I search for “Newport” the distances are apparently based on “Newport, USA”
Instead of “Newport, New South Wales”
I can probably figure out how to append my default region to the search string?

Just to let you know, I have been able to come up with a “satisfactory” solution for my site. I have disabled locations in the Permalinks settings.

Allowing a “user” to register and then log them in without a password is a recipe for spam listings gone wild!
Please make it an option for those of us that don’t want to be continually cleaning out garbage from the draft folder to enforce new registrations to login with a password after registering.
OK, another issue I have found with this is that ONLY the parent category can be selected as the Default category, which means that the wrong icon gets displayed on the map?
Does the “Default” category have any other significance than specifying the icon?
I need for a child category to be selected as the default category.

I haven’t experimented with these settings but I thought they way shown in the image would achieve what you want?

A reasonable display for Parent->Child categories will be enough for me, it is unusable currently.
Have you tried the GD options for “Place”/”Sorting Options” tab

Hmmm, can’t say I agree with you.
a. I don’t like that you need to select a location to search.
b. Specifically on your request, If I’m looking for a Leather Jacket I don’t really want to see cars with leather seats etc.Hi Brian,
The Enfold child theme functions.php should be an almost empty file, until you add the GD mods. You shouldn’t copy the original Enfold functions.php file to your child theme.
My version is attached, which has an additional function to bypass the loading of Google Maps API by Enfold – provided by Stiophan.
I hope we are able to use shortcodes as you describe; I’m hoping for clarification too.
