#1 Those are just widgest, remove them under the GD listings top section.
#2 The simplest way would be to translate the them .po file and upload it as a theme translation, you would search for “Popular Categories”
Its similar to this: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/translate-core/
Except you would put it in the folder /wp-content/languages/themes/ instead of /wp-content/languages/plugins/Thanks,

Can you explain a bit what you mean, if you use the location switcher you can browse by all those, is that what you mean?

Yes, i think the siplest way would maybe to have a JS function edit the text to something like “Select Cat (default: XYZ)”
