Did all updates and still got the same problem?

Hi Vikas,
Im still having the same problem, I have done all the updates.
I noticed the places which called the default icon did not have a category set in the backend place edit page – although they are assigned to categories in the place categories area and they do show up on the map.
I then tried to set a new category and included the problem places in that category but again they are not showing the correct icon only default.
I have tried to find where this icon is being called from – I have even changed the default icon by ftp to the core product – I am lost…
I have 4000 places showing an incorrect icon…

Hi Nicola,
Sorry I have been away, what do you mean about create a sub-directory?
If you mean the directory drop down menu in the main menu I have always created these using the wordpress menu settings on my websites – I also try to keep within two or three lvls for seo.
So to answer your question (hopefully) all my directory headings are parent categories I then use the WP menu to place them.
I started to confuse myself here, hope it makes sense.

Hi Kevin
Got it working with a meta slider and looking good, I found you have to save it within the plain text area, if you save it with any text in the visual area it breaks the slider and the text – it also repeats the content at the top of the page.
This is the same problem I’m having with the places listing box.
Image with it happy and wiring below thanks again buddy.

HI,
I have put together a list of things that I have run into today for everyone to be on the lookout for, I made some school boy errors and didn’t check a few things properly before going live.
I have also included the issues known and being worked on just in case they make sense to someone who has an answer 🙂
The problem is I don’t know if they are theme, plugin or new WP update issues as WPEngine do auto WP updates so here goes…
1) Category Description text doesn’t show
2) Map categories are expanded even when turned off
3) Category icon call a default one from some where on some uploaded places – I have even changed all icons to new ones and changed the default in the core.
4) I have created new widgets but in a couple of categories they are still including the themes widget as well as the plugins.
5) The listings still show the address when it is turned off in settings.
6) DO NOT delete the address section in the geodirectory settings.
7) The categories are expand on the map even though switched to minimise.
8) Typography in the listings – Vikas looked and said not to put everything in >p but I think this is standard on the theme – currently all text has to be written in the plain text area or it doesn’t view right – it is fine everywhere else.
Things that I missed when going live…
– When I transferred the site from testing to the main live area I did my normal reconnection of social media and final checks.
I also made sure after my first post that it appeared in our social media areas, FB, twitter etc… what I didn’t do was try a link, for some reason half my links even though I was posting from my live site and I had reconnected from the live site had the posts links going back to the test sites – took 30 posts before someone emailed me.
I had to cancel and revoke all social media accounts and set up again brand new connections – new api’s etc I have no idea why this would happen and can’t hold it to the plugin – its worth checking though as I had to delete the links and need to repost again today.
– I also noticed today that the numbers are not right on the directory location (all places page) and my actual number of places in category both on the backend and on the listings page…
It says I have 3 places in workwear –
http://www.floorinsite.com/location/But I only have two both on the page and in the category back end…
and finally I had a double on my admin main user with the same credentials including email which I didn’t think could be done, I obviously didn’t and couldn’t add it.. one was an admin and the other was just a user… first it would let me change or delete either I had to go into the myPhp to sort out.
A few other css issues have also jumped up which would have been the WP update as they weren’t there before the auto update.
Im still a happy bunny, if anyone has any ideas or comments fire away…

Hi Brian,
I have also noticed some major problems today, i am not sure if its the update of GD, the auto update of WP or compatibility problems..
The team will know better but I’m not sure if this could also be linked to the icons problem… in which I have removed all the old icons and place new ones for each category but still half my listings are pulling up a default one from somewhere, even though I have changed the default one in the core of the plugin files with filezilla.
Also I noticed today when you look on my total directory page the numbers on some categories are different to the actual amount of listings..
It says I have 3 workwear listings but only have two in the backend category list and on the actual page – therefore did I delete one that is still sitting somewhere…
I am about to post a list in the general chat thats worth checking as well.

Thanks for your post buddy, I tried it but got the following results in the attached file.
Im with wpengine who do an auto update to all sites, this was done yesterday, so I’m not sure if its the new WP version which has caused the problem in the picture.
As you can see when putting in a single image, it repeats the image at the top of the page as well.
It wouldn’t run the meta slider at all.

I have just tested this on my site as I have free and paid options, you have to set the limit on the free option to 1 or as many pics as you want…
I tested as mine is set to one, I put a pic in fine.

Hi Brian,
I know what you mean about the custom categories and sub categories, I had this before and found that every client wanted something different – there are 100’s of different types of laminate, 100’s of makes, colours etc..
I found that going back to basics for me was easy and kept things in check…
I have run into some persistent problems today, i didn’t realise that my social media links did not work properley – they directed off to my old test site even though the connections are correct, also have some user issues and with absolutely everything turned off I’m getting spam emails, i would guess my clients are as well…
I will keep updating although maybe this should be moved to a different post ?
