I have just purchased the full membership but am 5 minutes from requesting a refund.
    a) I am logged in a a paid up member – why is there no button for me to add a topic on the forum?
    b) I read and followed the “GD Core Plugin – Export & Import” page. I tried to upload a list.
“Fail, something wrong to create csv file” I little more detail would be useful.
I note that you can export, edit and re-upload category or list files, so I tried re-importing exactly the same, unedited category file as I had exported.
“Fail, something wrong to create csv file”
I have downloaded and am using Open Office to create my csv file and have not changed any headings. I have included all mandatory fields. I have read the details on the many forum listings. Where I discovered that apparently you have to have the categories imported, before you import the listings (it would be a good idea to list that in the upload process)

I have attached my listing and category files. Please advise.

    A. Looks like you managed to add a topic:)

    B. At https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-export/#mandatory it is stated:
post_category: use the name of the category or the slug; this category has to be created in WP admin before you import!

I guess you created the gd_shop custom post type, and have activated multilocations?

    Get stuffed!
Smart arse answers are not appreciated when I am wasting valuable time on this site.

    A) the question asks where the add support topic is on the Support page! Do you know? Is it there? Why would it not be right there?
I found a link to add a ticket on the front page of the site where your company boasts about its support. Do you think hiding the button will reduce support requests? – perhaps writing decent sequential documentation might reduce the support requests.

    B) The post categories were already created in WP-admin. I did use the name of existing WP post categories! I have now also manually added the categories to the GeoDirectory category, under the custom post type. Judging by the slug “fresh-1” I have now duplicated the categories.

Now hopefully the issue is the Multilocations add-on. Hiding the support button and forcing location restrictions to an individual suburb is ridiculous. For a company that runs a “geodirectory” application to wrongly and deliberately define a suburb as a “city” is cynical abuse and restraint. I had already purchased full membership. Why not disclose up front that the free app has suburb only 3km radius functionality. At least we would know what to do first. Sydney is a city covering many square miles. The location set-up default shows a 40km radius, which implies the available function radius from the default location.

Not much point arguing with a page. It is worth noting however, that my horrible customer experience has cost me more than the subscription in wasted time. It will be long remembered and is not a nice introduction after purchasing a new full membership. Your arrogant and unhelpful comments in reply were not appreciated.

Please explain why the upload of your own category sample file also failed – it was a base test to try and analyse the source of the issue. Also the default error message should give some idea of the file rejection. That should be simple enough if categories are missing or the list contains entries outside of the “allowed” default area.

Also could you please define exactly what “post_content: description” exactly is?
The sample file shows only “test” is it a description of the store / listing? In the category example a proper description is entered in the description fields.

Also an accurate definition of “default location” would be really helpful and honest.

PLEASE DO A BETTER JOB NEXT TIME!

    A. I see. There are links on every page in the footer to the support policy and forum. I’ll suggest to add it to the menu up the top as well.

    B. WP requires categories for each different custom post type that is created. This page might be helpful: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/places-categories-and-listings/
You have not duplicated the categories, only the slug is duplicated, it is similar to this issue: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/faqs/why-do-my-locations-get-a-1-at-the-end/

Locations are determined by the Google Maps API. Google categorises every suburb in Australia as a separate location. In some countries Google uses not the suburb level, but a city level. There is little we can do about that. So the area covered by the free version will be different in every country.

I don’t know why the sample category upload failed without checking your setup. If you like, post your URL and WP admin details in a private reply and we will have a look at your settings. The reason for the error can be very varied, and the system will not always know, so it is not quite possible to write an error message for each situation.

“post_content: description” is the main content of a listing. That is why we suggest to load the dummy data, which you could then export to check: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/basic-installation/#dummy

Default location is essentially the first location required to be entered into the system, and follows the Google Maps API.

We are here to help, and I am not sure how I could have helped any better without having access to your system. What might be clear to you might be absolutely fuzzy to me, and vice versa. That is the nature of written communication.

    a) Here (attached) are screen-grabs from my view of the forums page and the support policy. I am logged in as a paid member. While the image does not show the whole page, I have viewed every millimeter and cannot find a link or button that enables me to add a new topic from either page.

    b) Given that you know the limitation of the google API, and your instructions refer to a process in the “Core Plug-in” it would be more reasonable if your company was up-front about the fact you cannot import a list with entries outside your base suburb radius. A definition of the default location in the section headed “Definitions” might help.
    A simple statement like:
“Importing lists into GeoDirectory will fail if the list contains entries outside of your “default location”. Depending on where you live, the default location might be as narrow as one suburb only. To access more functionality and upload entries from more than one suburb, you will need to first install the multi-locations add-on”

    “IMPORT & EXPORT”

    Step One
Install multi-locations addon if your list includes entries in multiple suburbs.
    Step Two
Ensure all categories for the listings already exist in wp-admin post categories.
(I am still unclear if it is essential to upload CPT categories as well or if the import reads primarily from wp-admin) perhaps . . .
    Step Three
Upload Categories detail, before attempting to upload lists! (the reference page refers to categories after detailing the list upload info)

    . . .

    Step Six
If you get error message: “Fail, something wrong to create csv file”
    Trouble shooting tips:
    1/
    2/

Your documentation is in bad English, its not sequential and it lacks support on predictable error situations – yet in “Support” you respond as though the fault is obvious.

Please show me the button to add a support ticket from the forums or support policy pages. I feel I am going to need it.

    A. The reason we cannot have a button like that is because support is best given if topics are created in the relevant forum or subforum. Rather than creating a page with a lot of buttons that would take you all the different forums, we link to the forum direct.

    B. From https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/multilocations/

As standard, GeoDirectory can be setup from a single location and listings can be added only for that location, but with our Location Manager plugin, you can let users set the location of their listings and the location will be stored in your locations database.

    From https://wordpress.org/plugins/geodirectory/

Create a local directory, based on a single location, using the GeoDirectory free core plugin.

    From https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-export/

If you want to add locations outside your default location, you will need to install the MultiLocations addon before you can import your data.

We always welcome suggestion for improvements to our documentation, thanks.

    Thanks so much.

I have downloaded Multilocations – and configured per the video as best I can.
I have again tried to upload my list and get the same error message.

Given that as detailed above, google defines every suburb in Sydney as a city. – does this mean I have to enter every single suburb in Sydney as a new location in order to create a directory – and upload listings – that covers Sydney? (meaning “greater” Sydney region rather than the default single location of the main city blocks.)

I have looked at the add neighbourhood function, but it offers no method to define the parameters fora neighbourhood area other than a single long / lat.

I have tried to enter our state – New South Wales – as a region – nothing happens.

I have hit a dead end.

Neighbourhoods are no use in Australia, they divide cities into smaller things.

There is no need to enter any locations, they will be auto-added when adding listings, either by you or your customers.

I also note that the CSV had NSW instead of New South Wales as region. When a user will add a listing, Google will add a region called New South Wales, that is the name they use. The result is you will have two regions. Always make sure the location references match what Google thinks.

One suggestion is to add a listing from the admin area, then export your CSV and compare with what you have done so far.

Alternatively, if you like, post your URL and WP admin details in a private reply and we will have a look at your settings, and check why things are not working as expected.

PS: I am in Brisbane, so I understand your suburb issue, if that is any consolation. To automate the maps, we need to rely on the Google Map API, there is no way around it.

    Thank you very much.
It is encouraging that you relate to the local application of this config.
However, I suspect something is wrong at the site admin / database side.
I tried your suggestion of exporting a listing entered manually. I also tried exporting the Categoies, which I had manually entered earlier today.
No luck – same error message – see attached:

I have just added about 10 suburbs to see if I could break through, but I have applied the neighbourhood element incorrectly.

I am working on a multi-site network, but have not seen any reference to any special settings.

I have now spent all day on this. Please advise next thoughts.

    Hi Rob,

I believe the CSV export problem is de to some files permissions.

We’ll need FTP credentials too in order to verify.

    Let us know,

    Thanks

The login details for FTP are the same as provided previously for the site.
I need to break through to resolve this. Just let me know if there is anything I need to do.

    thank you.
