Hi, how can I disable the category filter from the search bar? I have created around 10 different CPT’s for each sector, and when I add listings across multiple sectors, GD automatically adds the category filter in the search bar.

I want users to be able to use the search functionwithout having to select a category type.

    Regards,
    Aadhil

Sorry, I meant to say CPT filter in the main search area NOT the category filter.

The GD Search does only search one CPT at the time, so on Location pages, the search will only search your default CPT, and on Listings pages, it will only search the CPT of that Listings page:
    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/gd-search/#cpt

But if you want to hide it: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/common-styling-examples/#cpt-selector

    Thanks

    Hi Guust,

    Thanks for the reply.

Am I missing something here, or am I using the CPT incorrectly? If this is the case, then this method of the user having to select the CPT from a drop down list for each search is a constraint isn’t it? Appreciate you have said it is possible to hide the CPT, but still it can only search one CPT per search. Is there a reason for this? Ideally you want your users to be able to use the site/ run searches with the minimum amount of clicks, especially due to the fact most users will be accessing the site via their mobile phones.

The reason I created one CPT per sector e.g. Finance, Shopping, Restaurants etc.. this is so that I can create custom filters per sector (I saw a comment in which Stiofan has recommended one CPT per industry/ sector)

If I set up one CPT and then set each sector as a category (then further refine the categories in to sub-categories) will I be able to set up filters by category type? Is this then the best way to go about?

    Regards,

    Aadhil

    Have a look at https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/places-categories-and-listings/

You cannot set up filters per category, but you can limit custom fields per category, similar to this article: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/creating-different-event-types/

    Thanks
