We’d be fine installing the Directory on each site. We’d still want to figure out a way to only need to make changes on the main site, and not on the “extended sites” too.

I guess worse case scenario, if we can’t have it automatically populate elsewhere, we could do weekly exports to the “extended sites.”

I saw the “Embeddable Ratings Badge” addon, but thought it was just for ratings.

Can we use it as a widget with listing titles, but NOT include any ratings?

I suppose we can use ratings if needed, but we weren’t planning to use those in the beginning.

    Thanks again for your help!

Thanks Alex! That would be great if the GD system had that capability.

I don’t know your system well enough yet to say exactly what we’d need.

However, I can say that we wouldn’t just want to do an import/export since we’d want any changes to the “main Directory” to auto-populate on the “extended Directory.”

Having the Directory on all the sports sites, as well as the main site would be fine with us. We’d just want a widget or short code that could call in the desired custom post type, category, sub-categories, and select fields.

So, I guess what we’re talking about is being able to call specific info from the main Directory and have it show on the other websites in our network.

We have a partner in San Diego we work with and I would love to do the same for their website. Meaning, take a portion of our info – all the resources we have in the San Diego area and have them show on their site.

Please let me know if that’s enough info to start, or if there’s something else I could share that would be helpful.

    Thanks again!

Thanks Alex. Do you mean that most advanced builders have settings to hide fields from logged in users or were you talking about the pricing packages?

Is this an easy thing for one of your GEO experts to do? For example, I saw that you and Guust are sometimes available for custom work.

    Thanks again.

Hi Alex. I believe you are saying that we can do the sidebar option I mentioned at the end of my request using the resources you provided. Is that correct?

Have you seen any other creative ways that people have brought sponsors/advertising into the GeoDirectory?

    Thank you.

Thank you Alex. So, have you ever heard of anyone who was able to figure out a workaround to have packages by system wide?

THANK YOU Guust! That was super helpful!

One question – you wrote that “every listing needs to be in 1 CPT only.”

So, if I understand this correctly, he pizzeria itself was in the Places CPT and the Events were in Events CPT.

Somehow though the events showed in a tab on the Places Listing, too.

It had this message, which I didn’t understand – “This is a linked event, added by one user to a listing of another user. Look in the sidebar for a link to the listing this event is linked to.”, but I like how you could find the events under the Places listing.

    QUESTION(S):

    1. Is each event a separate listing in Events?
    2. If so, would a person need to pay separately for each Event listing? (if we wanted to set it up that way).
    3. Could 1 or 2 Event listings be included in the price of a Places listing (for example), while 3 or more events would be a higher price/package?

Again, thank you for your comments/links. It’s greatly appreciated!

Actually, I just realized I may be looking at this backwards. Maybe it’s the sports related categories that are the important thing and there’s a custom field where it relates to one of our 54 sports.

Then, the question simply becomes how we can have a page for each of the 54 sports that shows all the categories and cities with golf listings.

Perhaps that’s a better way to think about it???

Other than having the listings easy to search for our people, the main thing we’re after is having each sport and city have its own sponsorable page/listings.

That will ultimately be the million-dollar question (literally :).

Thank you Guust and Alex for your responses. I’m not quite sure I’m seeing what you’re saying. For example, not all the listings will have dates or venues, so I’m not seeing the big picture.

(Although I love the idea of having multiple events for a specific venue show up in the same place.)

To reiterate, we’re going to feature 54 sports – like archery, basketball, tennis, softball, track and field, volleyball, etc. And, for each of those, we want to show associations, leagues, tournaments, camps and clinics, instructors, etc.

Isn’t the Events addon more like a calendar or is it more like a regular category? I remember connecting with someone before purchasing GeoDirectory Membership and he said that he would recommend your Events addon in place of The Events Calendar that we currently use.

I guess I assumed that it would put things on a calendar like The Events Calendar, as opposed to simply being another custom post type. Perhaps I’m not thinking about “Events” in the right way to begin with.

How about this … what if I created a category for each sport (54), and a category for tournaments, camps and clinics, etc., is there a shortcode that I could put on the BASKETBALL “home page,” (for example), that would list the tournaments, camps and clinics related just to basketball?

That way, each could be listed separately in their own category but all could come together on the same page.

Again, I appreciate your ideas. I’m seeing 1,000’s of listings across all 50 states and I want to see if I can create a foundation to handle it without creating a lot of extra work or duplication.

    Thanks again!

    Thank You Alex!

I don’t know what the settings mean, but I made the settings like you have them in the docs page you gave me and it worked.

Thank you for your help! 🙂

P.S. I didn’t “delete” the latitude and longitude from the new listings, since I didn’t have them. But, it was my understanding with the new V2 it was okay not to have them. Thanks again.

    Hi Again!

Okay, using the “Disable Real Mime Check” plugin and importing the same file that I exported (with 3 test listings), I was able to start loading the file without the array error.

Now, here are the errors I got this time:

    Total 3 item(s) found.

3 / 3 item(s) could not be added due to blank title/invalid post type/invalid characters used in data.

Row 2 Error: Google geocode failed: REQUEST_DENIED
Row 3 Error: Google geocode failed: REQUEST_DENIED
Row 4 Error: Google geocode failed: REQUEST_DENIED’

    ************************

The only things I changed from the export file was I deleted the ID – which I thought I read needed to be done. I also deleted the latitude and longitude since I read that your V2 system would fill it in.

Please let me know what I should do next. Thank you.

    Thank you Stiofan!

My apologies for the confusion. When I searched for WP Easy Updates, the Easy Updates Manager came up on top and it was rated extremely high, so I assumed it was yours :). Didn’t even notice the name wasn’t right!

I didn’t realize the plugin wasn’t in the WordPress plugins area (or, if it is, it didn’t come up in my search).

Thanks for the link. I’ll add it to the plugins list now. As I mentioned, we have a multisite network, so my plan is to load it to the main list but activate it on the site with the Directory.

If that’s not the best plan, please let me know. Otherwise, I think I can get it online now.

    Thanks again for your help!
