The GDF modern theme is indeed already a child theme.
Have you considered using the GD Popular Category widget?
Not too sure how else to solve it …I think it is something you did, I cannot recreate that on my test site.
Did you modify the detail page template?
That is a remnant of commented HTML code.It looks like you are hosted at GoDaddy Managed WordPress. Their caching is the problem.
GoDaddy managed WP hosting is not compatible with GD, you will need to move to a normal server:

It looks like all your listings are galleries etc, they are not really events.
It could be a better idea to add them as Places or any other Custom Post Type, and just create a custom field with opening times.

Your admin credentials are not working.
IN GDF options, go to Header settings and look for WP admin bar and GD Admin bar. Is that what you are looking for?
I tried uploading on my test site without any problem.
Do you have PDF files enabled in the “File” custom field settings?
