It is not optional on the frontend, only in the backend.
ThanksWithout the PO files at /wp-content/plugins we cannot update the MO files.
So I added the Custom Post Type addon as suggested earlier to change “Events”: http://dev.web-guru.co.za/bandbay/gig-guide/Please add your licenses and make sure you are using the latest GD plugins if you want everything to work correctly.
Can you please update WordPress and de-activate any unnecessary plugins. There must be some plugin conflict so de-activate all non-GD plugins to see if that fixes it after re-saving WP Permalinks.
Then turn on the plugins again one by one and keep testing.Thanks

That is how language changes are made in all WordPress themes and plugins, and no, there is no other way.

GD will not work without them.
I set up your menu correctly at Appearance > Menus, so now you can control what is added to the menu.
Please check.You had the Login page set as your posts page at WP Settings > Reading.

ThanksThe file is not comma limited, but semi-colon limited.
There is no data in the author column, which is compulsory.
Post Type should be something like gd_course
Your header column needs moving up, they are not correct for the content.
I re-attached the file just saved as comma delimited.
