He has been working on a plugin to do just that for quite some time now. Last time I checked he had a beta ready and it needed a little bit more testing. Probably it’s ready by now.

To be 100% sure to get the prize, you need to get in touch to whoever is the moderator of your language on wordpress.org and work with him/her to validate your translation.
It’s not an easy process that involves commitment and time. That is what we require, commitment to translate, update and maintain a good translation over the time.
For that we provide free membership (for as long as we see commitment).
In my case, the Italian moderators are making me moderator too, but it’s been over 2 weeks since I’ve submitted my translation.
Once you are moderator you will see both your translation and other translations submitted. Once you validate one, the other are dropped and deleted.
Are you willing to go that far? Because that is what we are looking for. Is Patrick willing to go that far? I’m not sure…
If you are holding a project waiting to get the free membership, maybe it’s not a good idea.

You need to get it approved 1st and you’ll need to translate the readme.txt too.

I’m not 100% sure, but I think that translating the stable version is more than enough.

We will no longer give 12 months for a translation. Not all, but a lot took advantage, provided sloppy translations that we couldn’t check. Also many never followed up on updates and new strings added.
Now we want to do it differently and we’ll have a blog post soon about this.
We’ll give a auto-renewing free membership to whoever translate 1st here: https://translate.wordpress.org/locale/fr/default/wp-plugins/geodirectory where is moderated by French speaking individuals (readme.txt included). [obviously this is valid for french or any other language]
To keep the membership active you must translate all new strings that we eventually add/change, provide translation for the add-ons that you use and so on. If we see that after a week from the release, translations are not corrected, we deactivate the membership.
If that’s ok with you, just start translating and you’ll get it…

and put pressure on french moderators to approve it asap.
Including the readme.txt + all add-ons on our repository and you maintain it corrected after every update, we will give you lifetime license (valid as long as you maintain the translations).
This is valid for every language and I was going to announce it very soon with a blog post.

That plugin wasn’t supposed to be live.
The developer who coded it, didn’t do a great job and never corrected the mistake we highlighted, so it never passed our review. If they want to sell it they’ll have to sell it on their website.
It’s been removed now.
