Hi,
you can change gd_place to whatever you like. In this demo I named it Attractions : http://wpgeo.directory/
Only the admin will see in the back end gd_place and very few places.
You can even avoid using gd_place and only use other CPT.
Just remove it in design settings from map, navigation and the add listing navigation and you are set.

Sorry, but I don’t see this as something so essential for the community that needs to be developed right now.
I see this as customization or in case many request it… as a new addon.

that is the correct format when opening it.
Demlimiters must be , (commas) and ” (double quotes).
Make sure when saving this is the format too.

right now the plan is to make core, addons and framework stable, than we will start working on extending and integrating with 3rd party plugins.
However I think this has an easy solution: make sure that the login and register forms of the membership plugins are the one used all the time.
There should be a hook or action filter in GD to redirect our signup page to other pages and if there isn’t VIkas should add it for sure.

when I try to visit your website, other than for the home page I get a message saying:

The censured part isn’t really nice…
If you remove this protection I’ll have a look.

Yes you can take your old joomla website, install wordpress on it and use it as a development website.
However we can’t really give you generic support on how to use wordpress or joomla here. A quick search on google will pull thousands of website talking about how to move a joomla website to a wordpress website.
In this forum We can give you support on how to use GeoDirectory only and you are supposed to know at least the basics of wordpress to be able to do that.
One altrernative to a test website that I can suggest as solution to your problem, is to install a maintenance plugin that will present a coming soon page to your visitor, while you change theme and modify your website.
