There must be a conflict with something else. Did you try to deactivate all non GD Plugins to see if one of them is the culprit?

Did you check the spam folder? It’s very strange that the author did receive it and the admin didn’t…

There must be a plugin hijacking our search query, did you try to quickly disable all non GD plugins momentarily to see if the results change?

You need to create your own image and replace it via css:
