Hi Vikas, what does that mean? Can the fields be hidden, or not?
I suspect it has. I was previously able to put unofficial regions into the region field and it would accept them. Now it defaults to Australian States – which is OK for me but might cause issues for other countries, as you have found.
I believe the change was made so that new listings could be restricted to specified countries, regions and/or cities – and prevent listings being added outside of the specified area, if desired.
As I say, it works OK for me, but I need more granular control and will probably add a filter based on Lat and Lon once things settle down.
I’m not sure why they need to be there at all. Can they be hidden?
Geodirectory Settings > Design > Detail
This is designed for the Detail page of a listing.
1. Yeah, I don’t think you can put a widget on a tab?
2. Dunno
3. Related Listings is a tab, you can choose not to show it. The related listings can be “related” by whatever parameter you want to specify.
Hmmm, not sure where that post went? Maybe too many external links…
I’d look for a vps, becomes cost effective if you are hosting more than one site.
netlogistics . com . au good support, and flexible. I’ve had a vps with them for years.
webcity . com . au less expensive, less flexible, good support. Deal on until today with 40% off!
webhostingtalk . com . au/ for info and deals.
Don’t use an overseas provider unless your users are overseas.
Not sure I’d use a shared hosting for a GD site, Paolo says not to!
Depends where your users are, I’d try to find someone in your state if you are looking at Australian users. I’d only use an overseas host if the users were based OS, they are painfully slow from here and service is nowhere near as good as local providers.
I’m in Sydney and have had a vps with netlogistics.com.au for years and they provide very good support. If you are hosting more than one site a vps becomes cost effective.
webcity.com.au have reasonably price vps available, but with less flexibility than netlogistics. They have a 40% off special, ending today! 🙂
I don’t know if I would use a shared hosting arrangement for a GD site?
http://www.webhostingtalk.com.au/ is a good site for hosting info, and deals.
@greg, good to see an attractive boxed design and it presents well in mobile view too! I see you have avoided using the location filters, which is an issue I have struggled with!
@Punch, I didn’t spend much time with the GD theme I’ll be interested in seeing how it pans out. Thanks for listing all your add-ons, knowing which ones are compatible will be important.
OK, I think I’ve figured out what it is.
When I am logged in the icon changes size to indicates which listings I have created! (Not very intuitive if you don’t know about it!)
If I log in as a user who has created no listings then they all stay the same size.
Is there any way to show who the listing was created by in the listing views?
Hi Vikas,
Still running on local host. I’ll try and get a public dev site up tomorrow.
July 2, 2014 at 3:51 am in reply to: Which file has geodir-wrapper and/or where are developer docs? #7112Hey Brian, with Enfold you can create text areas just about anywhere and add shortcodes to them. If shortcodes for all the GD functionality were available we could create our own pages in the backend and place whatever we like wherever we liked!
That’s what I’m hoping for anyway! 🙂
Child theme advice for the themes Enfold, Avada and X is available and will be updated.
You might have to use that advice to try and adapt your theme to make it compatible, of hire someone in the “Jobs” forum to help you.
It is not long since GD was released and not many people have experience with adapting themes, yet. The developers are busy copying with user feedback, but they might be able to offer some tips???
@brian +1
A “Special Offers” page would be good. i.e. A filter to list listings with something in the “Special Offers”
Have you had a look at these…
http://wordpress.org/plugins/ultimate-posts-widget/installation/
http://wordpress.org/plugins/flexible-posts-widget/installation/
Perhaps they can do what you want?
Thanks Paolo, I’ll provide a link when I upload the site to a public test server.
Where/how do I set a “default sorting filter”, I don’t believe I have done that, and would that affect the “Search Near” sort order?
Thanks John, that is exactly what I was looking for. In this case more specificity is probably the better solution to avoid messing up styles elsewhere.
