Not sure why you need to pre-add the locations? They are added automatically whenever a new listing is created?
Yes, a farm can be in multiple Categories, so if you search for “Strawberry” then all farms in the Strawberry category will appear, with the “Strawberry” icon for that category.
Thanks Paolo, you guys deserve a good night’s sleep!
Thanks Vikas, I was just pointing out the issue on your site.
At the moment you need to specify Lat and Lon, don’t know if this is going to be addressed in the future?
Hi Guust,
This topic is marked as Resolved, which is why I posted a new topic, in case my question was going to be overlooked.
That’s impressive for an off-the-shelf search functionality!
The layout looks quite good, but as you say, you have a lot of options so the page becomes large and the number of items makes the layout look a bit skewed.
I wonder if there is some way to organise the items on tabs, or in an accordion, grouped by header?
Hi Guys,
Can you tell me where the schema.org info is implemented?
1. Any configuration? e.g. Local Business Vs Restaurant Vs Bed and Breakfast
2. Which pages is it added to? i.e. Listing Detail Vs Directory website footer
i.e. Can we add it for the directory itself, as well as the businesses listed in the directory, or is this a bad idea?(Using another directory system I sometimes get phone calls for the businesses listed)
You might want to upload the csv file, and/or the addresses that give the error – privately. Have you tried to use the addresses in Google to make sure that Google can find them – the error might mean exactly what it says?
Hi Paolo,
I hadn’t noticed the distance values in the search results, that makes more sense. I wonder how hard it would be to filter the results based on a defined distance?
I also noticed that the first result shows the distance in meters, and subsequent results are in miles?
Hi Paolo, yeah, I think it is confusing at best. Maybe something to look at in the future?
If you have a look at this page…
http://www.bookhinterland.com.au/accommodation/
This is a standard “Listing” page, and I think you can specify in the GD settings how many listing columns you want?? (Sorry I don’t have GD installed at the moment and I’m working from memory)
You can also go to the Appearance/Widgets area of WP and specify that you want a map at the TOP of the listings page, and get rid of the map in the Listings sidebar?
That might be closer to what you want/need?
Hi Guust, it works OK on your site, where the listings are closer together, and I think it will work OK on my site where the distances are even less! So it’s probably not an issue for me.
Hi Cathy,
When the multi-location plugin is installed, you can just enter the new locations in the “Add Listing” form and the new towns will get added to the multi-locations automatically.
I don’t think it hurts to enable the “Everywhere” location – I believe that is just used in the location selector for website users who want to see the listings from everywhere, rather than just a specific town.
The “Home” page in GD sounds like it has the format you want to display the map and listings? If you want to use a different page on your website as your home page, you can, and then create a new link to the GD home page using this URL as the link …
yoursitename.com/location/
e.g. for the GD test site it is… http://wpgeo.directory/location/
On the other hand, if you want a different page and layout for the map and list of farms, then I think you will have to wait for the next release when – hopefully – shortcodes will become available and you’ll be able to place the list and map anywhere you want. At this stage I think we are stuck with the default GD home page layout?
@guust – Re Pinpoint Functionality on Listings sidebar map – I’ve stopped playing with GD until the next release (don’t like working with moving targets) I’ll let you know when I have a look at the new version.
What I want is for the auto-zoom on the listing page to start with auto-zoom to show all listings, and then when a Pinpoint is selected for the map to auto-zoom to just the selected listing, preferably at a specified zoom level. The link I included above doesn’t do that.
http://wpgeo.directory/hotels/5-stars/
Maybe it does do it? This page shows New York and Chicago and won’t zoom closer.
