    Businesses
    -Restaurants
    –Chinese
    –Indian
    -Tradesmen
    –Plumbers
    –Electricians
    –Carpenters

I’m looking for a way to allow users of the site to drill down to a specific group of listings.

If you look at the two links the post above, the “Popular Categories” section lists ALL the categories, which is not very useful when there are a large number of categories.

If I can group categories (or custom post types) in a hierarchy and allow a drill down then I will be happy. (I don’t know if this is currently achievable with Categories, or Custom Post Types?? – because I don’t know how to do it?)

So, assuming it can work with Categories, when I click on…

“Businesses” in the menu, I want to see the “Popular Categories” containing ONLY

    Restaurants and Tradesmen

When I then click on “Restaurants”, I want to see “Popular Categories” containing ONLY

    Chinese and Indian

Wait for a compatible version of GD – it is being updated to be more compatible with themes, will have to wait to see what this means?

When GD release the version with shortcodes it should be a lot easier to use.

Would it also be useful/easier to make the custom post type hierarchical?

Somehow I need to display a hierarchy of listings – how can I do that???

    Hi Stroudsco,

Is this a custom menu you’ve created, or the default menu?

Is there any chance that menu items can link to categories with no listings, or does the menu only include categories with listings?

    Hi Vikas,

I also think there needs to be a way to create a hierarchical menu of categories. GD sites which have a lot of categories start to look untidy and not very use friendly in the “Popular Categories” section, e.g.

    http://ebrencs.cat/
    http://www.floorinsite.com/places/flooring-accessories-2/

Is there any way that “Popular Categories”, and the main menu, can be made hierarchical?

No, I’m more interested in hiding the login from brute force attackers, preventing robot sign ups with captcha etc, etc.

As I mentioned elsewhere, there are numerous security plugins for signup and login that I would rather use than your page with unknown security.

Yeah, I think once a user has logged in, a part of the “My Dashboard” options could be a “My Listings” link with a simple filter for listings created by that user.

Just wondering why you don’t use the default wp login?

There are plenty of other plugins that add security to the wp login process and allow easy customisation of the login screen, etc etc, so I’m not sure why GD needs to worry about the login process at all?

    Thanks Vikas,

That adds the “Change Location” top menu to the custom menu, but the locations droplist is not visible on selection of this menu item for my theme. (The code is generated, it just doesn’t appear when selected – I might dig around to find out why?)

(It would be better if this functionality was a a separate widget, then we wouldn’t have problems with menus!)

BUT – while experimenting with this, I have found that the url…

    siteurl/location/

…seems to reset the place filter to “everywhere”?

If this is true, then maybe I can add a link for “All Listings” pointing to this url to reset the filter. I’ll continue working on the design and let you know if this solves my concerns.

    Hi Vikas,

I want Everywhere locations to show – typing a city into the url will show the listings for that city, but I have NO WAY of getting all locations back again. Whenever I add a new listing that is not in the default city, I have to exit the browser for that listing to show up.

How about making the location switcher a plugin so that it can be added into any of the widget areas on the site, instead of a menu add-in?

I am using a custom menu, my theme only supports a custom menu, so I can’t use your location switcher menu option, so I can’t switch locations???

    Hi Vikas,

Is there any way to add the location switcher to a custom menu?
