I have spent the last 3 days trying to figure out this ridiculous setup and am beyond frustrated. I have used many different theme builders but this Beaver Lite takes the cake. I have tried using this builder to edit the home page to put 3 stupid columns in under the home page image. This is a standard layout and I cannot believe it is this difficult. I really want to use wpgeodirectory and switch my site to wp, but you guys have really made it hard.

I even tried creating a custom page but I get no farther than ending up in the unbelievably inept page builder interface that pops up their theme selector every single time and then when I am done takes me back to a place where I have to hit the edit button to get back to the back end. The interface is nothing like your documentation. Why did you guys make this so hard? And everything that is even close to what I need in the forum is moved to a private conversation.

I have wasted so much time with layout and can’t get anything done here. I thought about moving over to Divi but don’t want to lose the dashboard functionality now that I kind of figured it out. I need help creating a custom home page or editing the existing home page. Not sure why you didn’t just put editable regions in there. Please help while I still have some hair left.

Forgot to mention that I am using Supreme Directory.

    Thanks

    Hi Joel,

Please share the URL of the site in question so we can take a better look at it and also WP temp admin access to your site. You can post the details here using the private reply option below.

    Hi Joel,

I came by your post randomly searching for something else and your cry for help as long as you still have hair made me laugh and feel your pain, so I I’ll briefly share my experience that may help you – note that figuring this out made my hair line recede as well.

I initially also tried to use a page builder (Thrive Architect) to edit the supreme directory theme. However, it’s not compatible. You have to understand that the gd pages are highly dynamic so that a page builder, that may be good for building landing pages, is generally of limited help.

Not sure what exact part you are trying to customise, but for example on the start page (that has the search function only) I build the page with a page builder and then inserted a custom HTML where I pasted the GD shortcode for the search function (have a look at the documentary section for the shortcodes). The pages looks decent now.

Apart from that for any GD content you will have to do lots of CSS customisation and the best way is to get familiar with the browsers inspect tool and then locate the classes and IDs in your files. If you want to make more structurally changes then you will have to digg into the PHP files.

The above is assuming you have already explored the GD settings in WP (dashboard).

    Good luck!

    David

Hi Joel, as David says, GD’s pages are template driven and are not WP pages. Theme builders only work for WP pages. To change columns on GD pages, have a look at https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/layout/#directory
You will have to go to GD > Design, and edit the layouts there.

I cannot access WP-admin, because the username or password was incorrect and now my IP is blocked. Please turn off WP Defender temporarily if you want us to have a look at your settings. I no longer can even see the site at all.

    2. Is there any way to remove Address as a required field for “Internet Only” businesses?
GD > General > General tab > Select CPT to disable physical location
    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-general/#physical

    4. Is there a way to use map thumbs by each listing return? I would rather use the sidebar than map on the listing return page.
I am not sure which page you are talking about.
On the Detail page, you can add a GD Listings widget to the sidebar.
On the Listings page, Supreme splits the page in two, one side with the map and the other side with the listings. Other themes do not use that layout, for example have a look at https://wpgeo.directory/starter/places/restaurants/ for the Listings page on Directory Starter.
Adding thumbnails of the map for each listing on the Listings page would require customization.
Let us know if I misunderstood your question.

    5. I have about 10k listings to import. I don’t think there will be an issue with this number of records, correct?
Normally not, but that is totally depending on your server and hosting.

    Thanks

The home page is customized with widgets, so if you want 5 rows with different content, you add 5 different widgets above each other.
Use the GD Home Content section.
    Have a look at https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/layout/#directory

I don’t know which page you mean with “listing page”: the ListingS page (category pages) or the Detail page (one listing only)?

Thanks. That confirms what I found earlier. The problem is that every website in the universe has a 3 feature image/icon layout under the home page image and there is no provision for that in your layout. I tried custom html with a grid but Supreme Directory doesn’t recognize the grid which is really frustrating. I got a gallery grid to work somewhat but the result was less than spectacular. How can I get a grid or multi-column layout in the GD Home Content Section?

    Hello!

Have you tried out our “Features” Widget?

I added three to your home page to checkout:

    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/widgets/#features

Try removing the widgets from the “Home Right” widget area and see what you think.

Some members have gone the direction of creating a new “Page” that they use at the WP Front Page, the site landing page, and then setting GD Home as a different page, the home page of the Directory on their site.

Going that route allows you to use your builder on your site landing/home page.

That might work. I will have to mess with it. How do you center the Features Widget?

If I have to create an entirely new page and then set it as the WP Front Page, doesn’t that defeat the entire purpose of a theme? I have spent so much time on this that I could have created multiple front pages but I want to keep the functionality that has been baked in. This is part of what I find so incredulous. Somehow you guys took what should have been simple and made it really difficult and I don’t know why. Editable region in the center of the home page where I can put columns. Is this an unreasonable ask? Thanks for your help thus far. Joel

Plus I just found out that if I ever update the theme all my changes are lost since I cannot create a child of a child? This just keeps getting better.

    Hello!

1# Centering – It looks centered now
2# Custom Home Pages are very common
3# The plugin is designed to work with ‘all’ themes in the sense that it offers features that are loaded into the #content section of the page, in a way similar to how most builders work. That makes it very easy to figure out which features are from the theme and which are from the plugin because the plugin, even though it offers everything needed for a directory, is self-contained. If the GD themes aren’t working for you, you can try any number of other themes.
4# On pages where the GD plugin is loaded, the GD plugin is loaded, instead of other plugins.
5# This is a WordPress limitation

Is there a guide on the best way to create a custom page? I have never had to do this with another theme so not sure the best path. Thanks.

Apologies. How did you center it? I switched back and forth between themes and it does not appear to be centered.

    Hi Alex,

So rather than take a confrontational approach, perhaps you might understand my frustration and take that as a cue that maybe the supporting documentation, as you say, is not enough to get new members through the learning curve. Alarm because I am having difficulty getting the product to do what I want it to do. Frustration because it is taking me ten times longer to get done what I am trying to get done. If I wanted a refund, I would have asked for one.

I am willing to continue working to get my site online to replace a competitor of yours if you are okay with that. If you aren’t, then that tells me something that I don’t really appreciate.

You said the Features widget was center aligned. It isn’t. I simply asked you how you aligned it using the customize interface. I also, asked if you had a guide on the best way to create a custom page and how I should integrate it with wpgeodir. Not sure how these questions led to the responses you provided. Also, forgive me for not being the best with WP and asking these noob questions.

    Thanks,
    Joel
