So I am planing to start using this for one of my new website but have these doubts and questions before finalizing it
1) URL Structure
I see in the Permalink Setting (GeoDirectory) I can change the Listing URL Prefix is it possible to not have a slug there?? instead of
http://*******/<<your slug>>/united-states/new-york/rittenhouse-square/
i want the url to be like
http://*******/united-states/new-york/rittenhouse-square/2) Replace “Place” and “Places” with something else
In the clowndirectory demo i see that the word “Places” is replaced by “Clown” how and where do I find that setting? I changed the Permalink name but i still see “Places”. I should be able to change that in the Breadcrumb too..3) If I purchase the addon “Prices and Payments”?
Can it allow/disallow special custom fields for paid vs free listing. Limit number of Images etc.4) Confusion with Categories
The listings on my website would be of a single main category just like the “Clowns” example. Similarly it may have subcategories like “Male” and “Female” so do I have to create a main category and then add the sub categories to it? or Should I just add “Male” and “Female” ?5) Is it possible to Customize the Add Listing Page?
Say if I want to change the labels of some default fields like “Listing Title” etc where do i change it?6) Default Location
I want it to allow me to choose any location from the United States, I entered New York as the default city and region, but now it does not allow me to choose any location outside New York, this is not what I want..December 31, 2015 at 1:02 am #659981. No, you always will have at least site.com/places(or similar)/listing-name
2. That is possible with the Custom Post Type addon, or by using the translation files.
https://wpgeodirectory.com/addons/custom-post-types/3. Yes
4. All listings need to be in a Custom Post Type (places) and at least one category (male or female).
Have a look here: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/places-categories-and-listings/5. Some you change with the translation files, but most you change at GD > Place settings > Custom fields.
6. You need the Location Manager (aka Multilocation) addon for that.
https://wpgeodirectory.com/addons/multilocation/December 31, 2015 at 6:45 am #66013Thanks @guust for the quick response..
Understood the 1 , 3 and 6 !!!
About the question 2 and 4
So if I use the Custom Post Type addon, and I change the “Places” to something else it will change the Text everywhere right to be precise
A) Everywhere in The Breadcrumbs
B) On the Listing Details : where it says “Place Category: ” and “Place Tags:”
C) On the Location Page : Where it says “Places in <<City Name>>” in the title and on the page content. Also Where do I find the translation files?
One more thing in the breadcrumbs for the listing
“Home > Places > United States > New York > Rittenhouse Square”
If the user clicks on “New York” or “United States” it takes him to a Location page where only the listing in those regions are displayed.. Is there a way to add descriptions to those pages? for example If I want to add description to “New York” can I do it?December 31, 2015 at 9:06 am #660282+4: Yes, it will change everywhere.
https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/category/translation/
Description in location pages are added this way: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/location-manager-widgets/#desc [still need to fix the pics again 🙁 ]
December 31, 2015 at 9:49 am #66037So the Location Description will only work with the Multi-location add-on!!
What does that table on the page mean?
Widget name Can be used on these pages:
does it have to do anything with the description being displayed?
December 31, 2015 at 10:35 am #66039The location description will only show on the home/location pages, not on the category or detail pages.
December 31, 2015 at 2:23 pm #66051As a follow up to the issue of renaming the Places Post Type, I notices the Post Type is not editable but everything else is. Can I rename Places here (replacing every reference to “Place” with for example “Concert Halls”) or do I also have to edit the .po file as well? Does it matter that the post type is different from every other Listing Slug and Label?
Basically I want to use Places but call it something different. I am not 100% clear on this.
Thanks and Happy New Year!

December 31, 2015 at 3:05 pm #66058@justmark This was exactly my next question, I activated purchased a 4 month membership on this site so that I start using the plugins and test them out..
There are a few things which have now come up…
the first thing is posted
“Disable the Places when I have a new Custom Post Type created”
https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/topic/want-to-disable-places/which I think will answer your question too since “Place” taxonomy is set as readonly i dont think it will be possible to update and change the name to something else even if you change the Title’s etc the search term displays “gd_places” which creates confusion..
December 31, 2015 at 5:02 pm #66072Hi,
if you rename the Place custom post type via Custom Post Types add-on, the only thing that will not change is the gd_place part in the url of the add listing page and in the search URLs:
yoursite.com/add-listing/?listing_type=gd_place
yoursite.com/?geodir_search=1&stype=gd_place&s=+&snear=&sgd_placecategory[]=&sgeo_lat=&sgeo_lon=If you need to use a different post type, just create and delete all listing from the default post type. disable it from the map and navigation in GeoDirectory >> Design >> Map and GeoDirectory >> Design >> Navigation and it will not appear anywhere, but the back end.
Thanks
