    Hi guys,

    Good day!

I’m new to the theme and still in the process of learning it. I have a few questions.
I’m using Supreme child theme. I got all addons activated.

    Homepage:
    a. How do i change this background? http://prntscr.com/jpirae

    b. I planning to add Locations Menus in the center of the homepage banner. e.g When i click Texas it will show all listings under in Texas, and if i click on New York it will show all listings under in NY .. so on and so fort. What’s the best way to do this?

    c. and under each ‘locations, where it shows the listings under that location’, i want to have a search filter in the sidebar. just like this http://prntscr.com/jpitnv
Is this doable? so it will search for the Main category and sub category. just to filter the search under that location

    d. Will this work well with <a href="http://Elementor“>Elementor? I want to customise my Homepage.

I dont mind doing custom stuff, I do understand css and little bit of php.

    Cheers

Change the featured image of the page used for GD Home: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/supreme-directory-overview/

You can do that manually by adding custom links to those location pages, or you can use the location switcher. Visit GD > Design > Navigation to see options: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/multilocations/#gd

You can add a GD Search widget to the Home Page sidebar.

    d. Will this work well with Elementor? I want to customise my Homepage.

Elementor cannot be used on the GD Home page, but you can use a different page for your wordpress home page and use elementor there, along with a few select GD shortcode or widgets. The GD Home page is the home page of the directory.

    for letter b. (location links)

I created 3 dummy listings under ‘Accomodations’ a custom post type i created.
these 3 dumming listing are in NSW, TASMANIA and WA http://prntscr.com/jqyxus

what will be the location link for TAS,NSW and WA. Im having trouble looking for it.
will it display the listings under that region?

    —–

What’s the best/optimal way to do this? Instead of creating CPT like Accomodations, Restaurants, Food etc..

Should i create a CPT like NSW, TAS, WA ?? then add the listing from there? then just add categories in it? Your thoughts?

Just add these shortcodes to a normal WordPress page, and you will get links to all your pages that are auto-created by GD.

    These links may be handy:
    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/places-categories-and-listings/
    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/dos-and-donts/

Also, each listing has to be in at least one category, the 3 listings you showed are not in a category, so they cannot work.

    Thanks

    I got these

    samplesite.com/location/australia/new-south-wales/
    samplesite.com/location/australia/western-australia/

Now i want to change the ‘Banner background’ of each locations. I assume that can be done by target the page-id of each pages then change it via css?

    /location/australia/western-australia/
    /location/australia/new-south-wales/

I got these as custom links in the banner. Anyway, if i want to change the banner image for each.. should i target the page-id then do it by css? or is there a better way

Im sorry. , been through this for a couple of hours now. I’m having a hard time understanding everything. could please guide me

What im wanting is to have a a list of states in the homepage where a user can click on those e.g NSW, WA etc.

    1. for example a user clicks on NSW – it will show all ‘ports/pier’ available in NSW.
    2. under those ‘ports’ it will have a couple of businesses in it. ofcourse located in that port only.
    3. Let’s say i click on ‘Port A’ – then it will show all businesses or services inside that ‘Port A’.
    4. there are thousands of ports located in each states, can geo handle this? or will it depend on my server?

Should i setup ‘Port’ as a CPT? or should i setup a cpt called ‘business/services’ then have ‘port’ as a category? Im confused. A tip will be much appreciated.

    Hello,

we advise against using categories for ‘locations’. Each port could be a category, so you can use the categories to group items that are in each port, and then category pages will show all the listings in the category, but generally categories are used to discriminate between different types of businesses.

Each port is also a geographically distinct city (area)? If it is a city then the listings will be shown on the city location page.

You could use a custom field that identifies the port associated with the listing. A drop down select field with the names of all the ports.

GeoDirectory can definitely handle thousands and thousands of listings.

You may want to have a CPT for ports, and then a CPT for Business/Services. Then you could link Business/Services to the port.

The GD Permalinks have been reset to include full location in the URL.

Take a look now and if it works for you then continue with your setup.

Additional changes to widget can be made at WordPress – Appearance – Widgets

Usually the home page contains a map, popular category widget, and some popular post view widgets. Since you are using Supreme perhaps the popular category widget is redundant.

Thank you. I got the business and port linked together now. So if i click on Port A – it will show in list of businesses in that Port.

Anyway, i think the CPT ‘Business’ is too broad. Should i set separate CPTs for each type of business? Like Restaurants, Cafe, Fuel.

It’s because i want different fields for each type of business.

You can only link one CPT to another CPT, so that may not work.

    See also
    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/places-categories-and-listings/#advantages

This explains how you can have different fields for different categories. Although explained for Events, the same principle can be used for any CPT:

    Thanks

Yes, each package can have different options.
