What error are you seeing?

That can happen when categories are deleted in, for example, Places -> Categories, but they have not yet been removed from the listings. The categories do need to be removed from the listings. If the Xs come back after removing them then it may be a different issue, but one I haven’t seen before. In that case please share WP Admin credentials and we can take a look.

For upcoming featured, under the General option choose the “Show events” and choose upcoming, then, in the filters section, select ‘featured only’.
For more complex sorting, create a custom sort that includes event date.

Once you create the sort you can then select it within the GD Listings settings.
The setting to adjust is:
WP Backend – GeoDirectory – Settings – General – Exclude roles from WP Backend
The default value is “Subscriber” – if you are assigning new roles to users, you may also want to check that you have removed the subscriber role. Even if Editors are allowed, if Subscribers are excluded, and the user has the subscriber role, they will be excluded.
The shortcode is incorrect, it is missing franchise_of=”auto”

Include a link to a listing that is showing issues updating data to franchises so we can see the issue.

GeoDirectory works with UsersWP, which has a Mailchimp addon, to add new user registrations to a Mialchimp email list.
