Outside of that there are no other methods to protect alterations in the file from overwrite during updates.

The Location Switcher can also be added to the menu, too.
On that site you had the V2 addon installed, I changed it out for the V1. All ok now?
You can edit the GD Details template by adjusting the Elementor themer layout for the GD Single.
You can turn Elementor back on for the GD Details page, but it will not work.
You would need to work with the theme options to set a theme specific image.
I am telling you which GD feature is closest.

In the email custom field you can remove the display by deselecting “Listings” and “Detail page sidebar” from the “Show in extra Output Locations” option.

That requires a customization. Instead you might consider using a different theme that would allow you to use a builder to create a front page here section in exactly the way you want it.
You have used Elementor basic to edit the GD Details, Archive, and Search Archive. That will not work unless you use Pro as explained here:

Without Pro, you should restore those pages to the default WP Pages with the default content.
Once you do that let us know if you still have the same issue.
