Places is the default post type that ships with GeoDirectory and it cannot be deleted. The Custom Post Types add-on lets you delete post types you created yourself, but Places and Events are protected. You can still stop Places from showing anywhere on your site, or reuse it for something else.
Removing Events
Events come from the Events Manager add-on. See How to remove the Events custom post type for the steps.
Hiding Places when you use your own post types
- Delete all Place listings from the Places menu in wp-admin, then empty the trash.
- Delete the Place categories at Places > Categories.
- Remove any Places links from your menus at Appearance > Menus.
- At Places > Settings, tick Show Advanced and tick Disable frontend add, so users cannot submit Places from the add listing page.
- Check any GD > Listings, GD > Map or GD > Categories blocks on your pages and set them to your own post types.
The post type dropdown in the GD > Search bar only lists post types that have listings, so once Places is empty it drops out of the search bar on its own.
Reusing Places instead
If you only need one post type, rename Places rather than adding a new one. At Places > Settings you can change the name, singular name and the other labels, and the URL slug. The internal name gd_place stays the same but visitors never see it.
To add more post types, see How to add a new custom post type.
